Attracting holidaymakers from all over the world, the Costa del Sol has become one of Europe´s top holiday destinations, and offers visitors some of the best shows, live entertainment and cabaret acts in Spain. In addition to the many discos, clubs and bars situated in most of the resorts along the coast, there are plenty more family friendly events to visit during the day time and early evening. Whether you fancy seeing a fabulous display of Andalucian horses, a traditional flamenco show or even a top comedian or drag act, you will find it here. It would be impossible to mention all of these shows, but you can usually pick up information from hotel receptions or tourist information offices, which can be found in most resorts. Live music events and concerts are always hosted during the summer months, and it is useful to check local press for details. Some examples of the more popular shows are listed below:
Horse Shows
El Ranchito
Opened in the 1960´s as a riding school, El Ranchito now hosts the most spectacular Andalucian horse show on the Costa Del Sol.José Gonzalez bought the ranch in 1975, and continued running it as a school until the 1990´s when he decided to create a family horse show with animals trained by him.This amazing show is performed every Wednesday evening, and brings together some of Andalucia´s finest riders and horses. Split into six sections, with a short break in the middle, the show includes equestrian ballet, Spanish dressage and the most incredible skills by the horsemen.Lasting one and a half hours, the show regularly attracts crowds of over 500 in the summer months, and advance booking is recommended. Real Escuela de Arte Ecuestre
For a real performance of the most noble and classical kind, no one should miss the magnificent stallions of the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre, the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, whose spirited performances take place every Thursday during the summer at the riding school, adjacent to the historic 19th century Palacio de las Cadenas, in the sherry town of Jerez de la Frontera. There are tours of the 60 stables arced round a cobbled courtyard and a wonderful tack room, with harnesses and tack worn by all the performing stallions, some of it dating back to the 18th century. Cabaret Shows
Casino Torrequebrada
Held regularly at the fabulous Casino Hotel, Torrequebrada, is one of the coast´s most traditional and flamboyant flamenco shows. The classy Fortuna nightclub plays host to the high quality Las Vegas style cabaret acts plus some excellent flamenco displays which would delight the purists. International floor shows and live bands also take to the stage here, making this one of the coast´s most famous entertainment venues. Shows take place from Tuesday to Saturday at 10.30pm, and dinner is also available in the elegant grill room restaurant. The Moonlight Cabaret
The Moonlight Cabaret Theatre is located on the fifth floor of Sunset Beach Club, in Benalmadena-Costa and is a unique event in the area, bringing live professional entertainment to both hotel guests and local residents. The professional shows were voted "Best Ever" on the Costa del Sol by TUI España in 2006, and were nominated for the award in 2007. Regular professional shows continue throughout most of the year, and during the summer time, the on-site entertainment department use this fabulous facility for hosting cabaret entertainment, activities and competitions for guests of all ages. Tivoli World
Tivoli World in Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmadena is not only a fabulous amusement park, but it also host some great shows for the kids. The theatre provides a wide choice of music, international events, ballet, children's shows and comedy, and seats more than 3000 people.In the Andalucia Square you can experience the colour and sounds of flamenco with several different shows each night. The shows are free and there is a genuine Andalucian bar/restaurant beside the entertainment venue.In the Western Squareyou will find an authentic reproduction of a wildwest town where comedy shows are staged. The shows are free, and take place throughout the summer season. Visitors can also ride up the mountain by cable car, and enjoy a fabulous wild bird show at the summit.
