One of the towns on the Sierra de Cadiz route. It's the starting point of the well-known Via Verde de la Sierra, a popular route for hiking and cycling enthusiasts which used to be the old railroad between Jerez and Almargen, but has now been converted into an eco-friendly alternative.
There are two main archaeological sites in Puerto Serrano; Palaeolithic remains dating from the Bronze Age, and Roman settlements in El Castellar, where you can find evidence of burials and ceramic materials. The municipality's cultural legacy is also present at the fountain of Ramos, located in a Bronze Age burial site.
Other landmarks worth visiting are the church of Santa María Magdalena, the Molino de Siré (an old Carmelite convent turned olive oil mill, highlighted as culturally important by the Andalusian government, and the Ermita El Almendral, with its Arabic tombs and Roman and Phoenician resting grounds. From the town's highest point you can see the path of the river Guadalete.

Puerto Serrano is has an excellent variety of activities on offer. As well as the endless hiking possibilities, you also have several bike routes, horse rides and, thanks to the caves situated on the borders of the town, abseiling. Also if you enjoy spending nights under the stars in peace, then you may camp (with permission) in a quiet environment in the La Toleta recreation area.
Olive oil, onion soup, la pipirrana (peppers roasted with tuna), a local variety of gazpacho, the famous gachas serranas (a dish of pork, potato and garlic) and torta de hornazo (cakes with almonds, cinnamon and sugar) are just a selection of the many typical gastronomic delights that the town has to offer.
One of the most celebrated fiestas on the annual events calendar is the Romeria de La in honour of Saint Mary of Magdalene (22 July), the Toro de Aguardiente Fiesta (1 January) and the Feria de Agosto (celebrated between the 2nd and 3rd weeks of August).
There are nearly 100km between Puerto Serrano and Cadiz city. To get here take the AP- 4 (direction Jerez), then the A-382 until you pass Villamartín and finally join the CA-4401 which takes you directly to the town.
