The village of Los Marines and its old quarter has been declared of special cultural interest, as has the village church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia (Our Lady of Grace), which dates from the 16th century and has an impressive font. Los Marines was populated by migrating Galicians in the 16th century.
There is a large traditional lavadero (communal clothes washing area); look out too for the characteristic long white water troughs, with four public fountains.
The area is one of the most beautiful in Huelva province, covered with thick woods of pines, holm oaks, cork oaks and sweet chestnut trees, typical of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, as well as the ubiquitous olive tree. Produce from the surprisingly rich arable land around Los Marines includes chestnuts and potatoes, as well as olives: in terms of handicrafts, olive branches are made into baskets.

Fiestas include the Virgin de Gracia romeria (pilgrimage) on the last Sunday in May, when the image is carried to a new hermitage 2km away towards Cortelazor. In the Chopo fiesta, a big poplar tree is planted in Plaza Carlos III in June, to be burned at San Juan (23 June). On 7 December the village celebrates the fragrant Fiesta de La Candelas, when branches of rosemary are burned in the main square. In 8 September is the fiesta del Voto, when offerings are made in gratitude for the eradication of a cholera epidemic in the 19th century.
Los Marines is 116km north-east of Huelva. To get there, take the A49, leave at Valverde del Camino/Trigueros (N435). Then take the A461 and the N433 - Los Marines is just past Aracena.
