From remains found at archaeological sites around El Coronil we known that Iberians, Carthaginians, Romans and Muslims have inhabited it. Visitors to this town can visit several places of interest, such as the 15th century Castillo de las Aguzaderas, located three km from the town centre, built to protect the water source for a fountain of the same name.
