In Nerja the following events take place on an ongoing basis.
Every Monday and Friday during their season (October to June). Serenaders, the local choral group directed by American singers and musicians Bernie Barr and Jan Meyel, hold twice weekly rehearsals in the Centro Cultural, Villa de Nerja, in calle Malaga 45 from 11.00. New members are welcome to join this 40-voice choir at their rehearsals. The group has become an important part of the local cultural scene giving several concerts during the course of the year, whilst providing an artistic outlet to retirees from other lands living on the Costa del Sol. Every Friday evening. The Lions Club of Nerja hold a Friday Dance Night at Restaurant Avenida in Avenida Pescia (near the local police station) from 21 to 24.00. Everyone is welcome. There is an open bar at reasonable prices and there is ample parking. There is often a floor show. Entrance of 7 euros. For more information on 952 523 051 or 952 525 314.
Every Sunday morning. The Lions Club of Nerja has organised a car boot sale in the town since 1988. Over the years it has grown so much in size that it has had to be moved several times to bigger areas. This again happened on 1 st May 2005 as the square at the end of calle Antonio Millon is now too small and the Sunday Sale moves to Urbanisation Almijara 2 on the east side of town where there will be plenty of parking as well as more space.
1 st and 3 rd Wednesday each month. Lions Club of Nerja meeting at their premises in calle Granada 67: for a business meeting on the first Wednesday and for a social gathering on the third Wednesday. The Nerja Lions founded in May 1978 do much to help the local community from supplying computers and sport material for local schools to furniture and T.V. sets for neighbour associations and financial help for handicapped children.
