| Huelva is renowned for its delicious little clams or coquinas |
As a busy port, Huelva's staple food on offer in
its bars and restaurants is a wonderful variety of fresh fish and
shellfish, some locally caught. It is renowned throughout Spain
for its "gambas blancas" (white prawns) and many
types of clams of differing sizes: almejas, chirlas
and coquinas to name a few. Try the city specialities:
"rape al vino blanco" (monkfish in white wine)
and "raya al pimentón" (skate with paprika).
Also popular are the pork and ham products
from the Sierra de Aracena north of Huelva.
Sample some of Huelva's wines, produced in the Condado
region east of the city, halfway to Seville. These refreshing dry
white wines are the perfect accompaniment to seafood.
A free tapas guide of bars and restaurants in the
city is available from the tourist office.
