Jerez City - Restaurants

Jerez is ideally located between the hills and the coast and enjoys the very best of fresh local produce, to which is often added the world famous sherry, brandy and vinegar of Jerez. These are used as main ingredients in many recipes, thus allowing Jerez to provide a surprisingly varied cuisine of the highest quality.

Shellfish and fish from the coast, meat and game from the hills, along with salads and traditional stews are staple dishes to be found in this region. They are often served "al Jerez" or "a la Jerezana", enhanced with Fino sherry, Amontillado, Oloroso or Pedro Ximénez, Brandy.

The restaurants in Jerez are generally of very high standard, having improved in quality over recent years. Many restaurants offer traditional Jerez cuisine of the highest level, prepared by professional chefs with long standing experience. The main restaurant area is located along the C/Constitorio and Plaza Vargas.

Remember that in Spain it is unusual to eat an evening meal before 9.00pm. and Spaniards are often to seen arriving to eat as late as 11.00pm. 2 O’ clock lunchtime too, begins later than in many other countries and diners can arrive as “late” as 3.30 or 4.00pm.

Venta Antonio
Popular if humble country restaurant on the outskirts of Jerez with functional decor and superb fresh seafood, try the specialities, like "sopa de mariscos" (shellfish soup) and lobster.

Gaitan
Within walking distance of the riding school with brick arches decorated with colourful ceramic plates and photos of well known diners. Crowded with business people at lunchtime with a traditional Andalusian menu with a few tasty Basque dishes. When in season wild mushroom fried in Virgin olive oil with garlic and parsley make an excellent starter.

Tendido 6
Located near the bullring, opposite gate number 6, hence the name. Patio is decorated appropriately with bullfight posters draped with bright red tablecloths. Menu includes cured ham, garlic shrimp and almond tart.

Plaza Santiago. Well known for fresh fish and seafood.

La Posada
Tiny white washed dining room, decorated with iron grillwork with just a few tables so makes booking essential. Tucked away behind a bar in a side street of central Jerez, close to Hotel Avila. Limited but good menu specialising in meat and fish dishes.
