ESTEPONA MURALs - Dia del Pesca

By Marianne Hill updated by Chris Chaplow.

‘Dia de Pesca’ (Fishing Day) was created in January 2014 and can be found in Barriada Isabel Simon at the top of Calle de la Teraza on the right hand side where it joins Anenida de Andalucia. This is the second mural by Jose Fernandez Rios and it is one of the biggest murals in Spain, measuring 100 sq.m and covering 6 walls of an apartment block.

As with ‘Una Flor de Futuro’ the effectiveness of this mural is dependent on you achieving the optimum viewing position. The mural recreates the sequence of a fisherman casting his line and catching a fish. When viewed from the correct angle the 6 independently standing walls come together to create a fantastic trompe l’oeil effect that plays with perspective.

There is an arrow painted on the pavement oposite to guide you to the optimum viewing point. Some say if you move left and right at the point the fishing line appears to cast. The kiosk in the photo above that partly obstructed the view has now been removed. Unfortunately the blue paint has faded badly.
