Do remember though when you apply for a works licence you must include your own labour in the costs at a realistic rate.

Re: UK driving licences valid in Spain?

El Cid has of course got it right. Without confirmation from Swansea that the holder is entitled to the licence they will not issue a Spanish premiso. Whilst an understandable precaution it does explain why it can be a somewhat protracted process.

Followed gerryh’s link and signed up with confused.com (seemed appropriate somehow..) for €10 more than the Axa price for 7 days. Thanks gerry!

annual car rental excess insurance

We seem to be making more and more trips to the UK and am fed up at charges by the hire firms for insurance to cover the excess. I have trawled this forum and followed a few links but all are for UK residents only - bar one at very high cost for Spanish residents. Is there anyone on here who has suc...

At 1076 sq ft that looks to be a tad more than a decent return!

Re: Having a car to use in UK

I have been doing the balance sheet Paddy, but there are other factors - the airport firms shut or charge extra for out-of-hours pickups, restricting which flights to use, and there are vast seasonal differences for hire. We have a Hertz Corsa for a week in March at €112, but if we escape the Bombay...

Having a car to use in UK

Thinking of getting a static caravan in the UK as a Brit-base for summer escapes and family visits, and a runabout to be left there. All the online sites collapse when faced with uk car/in uk/main residence in Spain/Spanish licence.....other than having the car in another name there (don’t like fals...

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?

Is the TIE the norm for non-EU folk who become resident? When we updated our residence paperwork following the move to Murcia the person before us seemed to have fingerprints taken and other different processes.

Olive wrote “More years ago than I care to remember, we bought 50 sq metres of value tiles which we brought back from Leroy Malaga in several trips by car. We drew off the stock to tile four rooms as we reformed them.” Good plan, remember to ALWAYS transport tiles ON EDGE (VERTICALLY) or a bump in t...

Re: Leroy Merlin/Bauhaus Delivery

We found many builders’ merchants with a wide range of tiles at better prices than the big two, and a local business is more likely to deliver cheaply or free, and maybe throw in the odd bag of grout and adhesive.

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?

It would depend on how effectively it is enforced. The “ghosts” will be a mix of the naive, the unaware, the ‘smart alecs’ the knowing dodgers and benefit fraudsters, plus I dare say a few criminals on the run. The wealthy and well-connected will no doubt continue as before, with the rest being dete...

ID cards for resident Brits?

No idea if this is kosher, but today's Costa Blanca News reports "BRITISH expats legally registered as resident in Spain will have to apply for a new third-country national identity card after March 29, the scheduled date for Brexit as Spain continues to prepare for hard Brexit." I cannot ...

In truth you are much less likely to get stopped if you are driving a Spanish registered car, even one with the driver on the wrong side.
