Re: Insulating a bedroom

By batting I meant Fiberglas wool, in NA it is typically colored pink and for years was the standard insulation for roofs and walls. So all of these stuccoed homes I see for sale are true masonry construction as opposed to stick and plywood as in NA? Are they block construction or poured concrete wi...

Re: Insulating a bedroom

Pardon my ignorance of Spanish construction methods, are you saying that your home was built with no Fiberglas batting or foam in the outside walls and no plastic sheeting wrapping the outer walls? Is this in an older home from the '40s or '50s or does the code allow this kind of construction today?

Thank you. I know it is unlikely to be necessary, but I like to be prepared. I guess this will be an incentive to take at least one selfie a day!

Re: Living part year in Spain part in the UK

I have dual nationality, I could enter on either. I was asking a theoretical question as the tax implications could be meaningful. I assume that no one wants to "fiddle" things in hopes one will not get caught.... I just wondered how one might prove ones lack of residency, so to speak, if ...

Re: Living part year in Spain part in the UK

How does on actually document this for the tax authorities? If I am getting close to the 183 days per annum in Spain, can I simply go on holiday in France, Italy or any other country? We are very seriously considering buying a second home in Spain to use not only to explore Spain, but as a base for ...

Re: Air conditioning

I assume one would include the 5yr warranty cost as well as the cost to remove and replace the bad unit when making price comparisons? Or does the warranty include all ancillary costs involved with a failed unit? Sometimes the really cheap stuff can be a good deal if all the details align......

Re: after the Greeks ...

Does it matter to a Greek who has been unemployed for years and has no hope of finding work if the money he is not being paid is a euro or a drachma? Did the rest of Europe forgiving Germany's debts after WWII ruin Germany or did they help it? Did this forgiveness destroy the asset values of Germany...

Re: after the Greeks ...

IMHO, it is the Greeks misfortune that Russia is broke. If not, the threat of cutting a better deal with Putin would bring the Germans to their senses and things would never have gotten this far. The Greeks are going to be made to pay for: 1. Having less than perfect leadership over the past few dec...

Re: Cannabis: legal or not?

Agreed. Life is about living and making your own judgements - not repeating parrot fashion what the Daly Mail or the government of the day decides what they want you to do, or not do. They've made U turns on countless subjects and they may do on cannabis in time, but it'll never be high on their li...

Re: Registering UK vs EU sourced car

I should probably make this a new thread, but are there any discounts for classics? I am guessing probably not as far as import and duty, but are the yearly fees lower?

Re: More wealth tax

Thanks for the replies, come Monday I will give the Spanish Embassy here a call and see if they know of any accountants familiar with Spanish tax law. It would be nice to know just how much is excused from the wealth tax. I.e. Does my business with my step-family qualify as a family business for Spa...

Registering UK vs EU sourced car

There is lots of useful information here and elsewhere online about bringing over a UK vehicle. Is the process the same for a car bought in say...Germany or France? If so then I will have no problem finding out what to do. Since we will want LHD buying in an LHD country makes the most sense. There a...

Re: Cannabis: legal or not?

Sorry I'd I stirred up things here with an honest question. I am trying to get an idea of the sort of life I could live in Spain vs that in California based upon feedback from folks who are already there. It seems like, based upon the PMs and posts, things are very much the same..... Thanks for the ...

Re: Cannabis: legal or not?

To be honest I don't think that this type of question or information seeking is what this Forum/ Information website is really able or willing to answer or discuss.. Although I have never used cannabis or any other drug, I do have a good understanding of the problems that it causes, having worked w...

Re: Cannabis: legal or not?

So you live in California (a sunny climate)and you an smoke hash to your hearts content on your own property . . . . . Why would you even think of coming to Europe ? You will have to contend with currency rates . . . . Europeans that don't think like Americans . . . . And different laws and police ...

Re: Cannabis: legal or not?

I can see being unable to answer due to lack of experience, knowledge, etc. but how is this the sort of question that the site is unwilling to discuss. Surely the fact that cannabis is legal in Spain indicates a certain local social acceptance even if the expat culture is mostly alcoholic. I don't t...

Re: Cannabis: legal or not?

I did that first. But knowing the letter of the law tells one nothing about how it is interpreted and enforced, thus my questions here. Are cannabis clubs open to expat members by law and in practice? Will smoking cannabis while drinking a sundowner on my patio be a problem? I live in California and...

Cannabis: legal or not?

I have read of new laws that permit personal use at home as well as clubs to purchase. If I have residency can I legally join a club and can I legally smoke on my patio or in my home? Is it permitted to grow a couple of plants for my own personal use on my private property assuming I purchase a home...
