I don't think things will get any better with general reservoir levels for two reasons. 1. golf courses and holiday home developments 2. people taking ever more water out of the ground via legal or illegal bore holes for irrigation to make up for the EU grants going off crops like olives (To pay for...

Roca in Granada(near the old AKI store) had a display solar water heater outside for a few months. It was about 300 euros and included the on demand electric pump. You turn a tap and bingo you have hot water. Don't know what controls(if any) there were to stop the water being too hot. The gubbins wa...

Grouser Too busy fitting a virtual new front door. The pencil came in very handy though couldn't see the lines, many thanks. That may just be old age. We decided against the walk on the grounds of time - 15 hour day and it would have been too much for some in the party. Plenty of other splendid walk...

Futile and power cuts

Don't get me wrong, if you live in the campo and you have mains electricity then it is a blessing. However after double figures worth of power cuts last night and again tonight lasting from a few seconds to half an hour, in perfectly good weather, I am driven to ask a couple of questions. Firstly - ...

Winterising a swimming pool

Haven't turned up anything on winterising an average sized, tiled, filtered pool other than there seems to be two schools of thought. More or less drain completely or take out about a foot of water. What chemicals do you add? What precautions are necessary in case we have a bad winter like the one t...

In 1975, I worked with a woman who used to travel to Spain regularly. She first started going in the mid 20's to what is now known as the Costa del Sol with her family who were butchers from Leicester. In those days there were only a few hotels and not many tourists at all. She showed us black and w...

Before anyone else points it out there is yet another road which claims to be higher than either the OLD one in Sierra Nevada or Solysombras' French Bonnet. For the record though it is in Eastern Europe so purists might argue it isn't in Europe at all. Has anyone got any thing useful to add in respo...

Walking from one side to the other of Sierra Nevada

I have always wanted to walk the old "highest road in Europe" from the barrier on the road high above the ski resort to presumably Capaliera above Bubion etc. and then get picked up rather than walk back. Has anyone done this? If so how long does it take? How far is it? Any tips? Which is ...

Telephone Instrument, Rent or Buy?

I have a plain Domo phone on rental. Am considering buying a phone as the rental seems a lot.

Anyone know how much a Domo is? Can you only buy them from Telefonica? Do they go faulty often? Alternatively any suggestions for an alternative basic phone instrument would be appreciated.

Internal walls -- Yeso versus Capa Fina !!

Here is a simple question. Why use Yeso on internal walls in an older rustic house when Capa Fina (Mon cap) is so much easier and forgiving to use? The end result would be far far better than the "world relief maps" on the walls presently. Is it just a question of price or something to do ...

Pjr- I think you will find they won't insure you on English plates. If you do a search on UK plated cars you will find loads of info on these forums. One thing to watch with Linea Direct is that they don't insure trailers. If you are towing one they do however recover it with your car if you breakdo...

Sealing a new flat roof top terrace against the elements

Does anyone know what (if anything) is done to seal a flat roof terrace? A friend is having a new flat roof (traditional concrete beams, bovadillas then concrete laid on top with mallazo wire grid reinforcement) Then the builder appears to be going to lay suitable outdoor tiles and upstands on top o...

log burner chimney through wall question

I am putting in another log burner for the coming winter. To get to the metal lined chimney flue I intend running 15 cm metal tubing vertically up (about a metre) from the log burner then going through the room wall at 45 degrees before putting the tubing up the first floor chimney with a second 45 ...

You could try Electro-Remin of Loja, Poligono Fuente Santa (Antequera side of Loja and nearer than Velez Malaga). Not many types of pumps they don't have or can't get for you.
