Re: Community AGM Help

I am not aware of any rule in the horizontal law that suggests owners can only give their proxy vote to another owner in the community. As long as the owner has given signed, written permission for this person to attend and vote on their behalf, I believe he has as much right to be there as any othe...

Re: Getting Residency

Our registration certificates do not have our passport numbers on; neither does the new card my friend has just been given, so I see no reason to "renew" your registration just because you have a new passport. We never did. As for the padrón question, like everything else, it probably depe...

Re: Getting Residency

As I thought. It does rather beg the question, what hoops may residents have to jump through after Brexit? If EU residents in the UK are required to register their "settled status", is it reasonable to assume that Spain will do likewise - and existing permanent resident status will have to...

Re: Getting Residency

Curious to know what others make of this: When I went to renew my second residency card (after 10 years residence) in 2007, the replacement green paper "EU registration" I was given stated "residente permanente" - I didn't have to request this, it appears to have been automatic d...

Re: Seven and a half ton box vans

I was never asked when I exchanged my UK licence for a Spanish one (in 1997) and only got up to 3.5t entitlement. Returning to the UK last year, I exchanged my Spanish licence for a UK one and automatically got C1 (up to 7.5t) entitlement again.

Re: Removal companies

Get a few quotes & ask a few questions before choosing one. We used Britannia last year to move from Torremolinos to Merseyside. They have a depot in Mijas where they will store your stuff for a limited time for free before shipping - useful if you need a bit of time before delivery in the UK. T...

Re: Batr Spirits Tot Measures

I can vouch for that: a newly arrived English family took over a large, long established bar in the centre of Torremolinos some years ago, and promptly introduced optics, thinking it was the best way to manage their stock / profits. It's hard to say who deserted the place fastest, the punters or the...

Re: Multifunction printers

I went through a few Epsons before someone advised me that they are notorious for clogging up if not used regularly, due to the ink tubes from the cartridges to the inkjets - or something like that, anyway! I've had an HP Deskjet for a while now, which has probably lasted longer than 3 Epsons. Just ...

Re: Health care in Spain

At least there's now a healthcare bill to look at health care for Brits "on holiday, working or retiring abroad" after Brexit that "will help by safeguarding reciprocal healthcare if there is no EU deal". (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-law-proposed-to-safeguard-uk-citize...

Re: Malaga train station

There's also a drop-off/pick up lane at the front of the station with about a dozen spaces, alongside the large taxi rank area and right by the entrance to the Metro (El Perchel). If you can coordinate your arrival, it might be an option, but I don't think you can leave your vehicle unattended there...

Re: purchase fees

The buyer always pays the estate agent's fees in a way, it's just that they are normally included in the purchase price (i.e. the seller has allowed for them in his asking price) The buyer isn't usually aware of how much the commission is, since the seller normally pays the agent once the deal is co...

Re: purchase fees

One other thing I would add is that some of the posts here seem to confuse the notary's role slightly: no part of the purchase price is paid "to" or "via" the notary. The notary simply oversees the transaction and ensures that the buyer hands over the agreed amount in the new esc...

Re: purchase fees

The purchase price is the purchase price: the price that goes on the escritura should be the total agreed sale price. How it's split and who receives what is irrelevant. If the property was jointly owned by two individuals, making out two cheques for half the total each doesn't reduce the amount you...

Re: purchase fees

He's not paying the sellers fees (depending on how you look at it - you could say the buyer always pays the seller's costs, since the seller presumably incorporates these into his sale price); he's merely being asked to deduct these fees from the amount he pays to the seller, and pay it to the selle...

Re: purchase fees

Ditto that, no reason for you to agree to make out 3 seperate cheques - but in my experience, Spanish banks usually charge a percentage fee of the value of the cheque (an outrageous abuse IMHO), so whether it's one cheque or three may not actually make any difference to the cost incurred by you. I w...

Re: Buying RHD UK registered car

The stories that come up on that search are quite old. Never heard of them, or any of the company names mentioned. It does seem a little coincidental that they were operating in Nottingham, however - there's not many LHD dealers, so there could well be a connection, but the company I dealt with has ...

I guess El Cid is a bloke - otherwise she'd be La Cid, surely? :P

Another cat here - named after the street on which it was found, the street being named after a famous artist. Both cat & artist were male, so there's your clue

Re: Buying RHD UK registered car

Obviously a question of personal preference, and I guess littleeak will do his/her own research and arrive at the best solution for their circumstances. Don't really see what the hassle would be in taking the LHD to the UK - after all, the majority of the journey will be on the right. As 1bassleft s...
