Rain in Malaga, Granada etc

Postby oliveview01 » Mon Sep 07, 2015 1:42 pm

Just watching the local Andalucia news on tv- looks like terrible storms were about yesterday/today. We have had just a few drops this way (Morón de la Frontera, Sevilla) just enough to make the car dirty but not to wet the ground. They said there was flooding in Cuevas san Marcos and Archidona. Albuñol looked pretty scary. Planes diverted to Sevilla from Malaga. Cid, any rain your way?

There was very heavy rain in the Axarquia area in the early hours of this morning, with localised flooding reported in Frigiliana, Torre del Mar and Benamocarra.

At present, the approach road to Málaga airport is cut off by flooding.

More rain and thunderstorms is forecast for today and tomorrow morning, so it could get worse.

We've had thunder rumbling away most of today but only a few short showers and not much has fallen. Suddenly feels very chilly having finally aclimatized to the 33 degrees we had indoors for weeks  Pool temp has dropped dramatically too considering it was only last week it was 32 degrees. It's often like that here .... a change of season almost overnight.

We often watch the Spanish weather on TV in the afternoons where they show photos and videos of weather from around Spain. They had terrible storms last week in the north and east with huge hail the size of golf balls that had smashed up a lot of cars. It's been quite stormy throughout the summer in some parts of the north with terrible floods.

Blimey Malaga looks bad. No wonder they say that Torrox has the best climate in Europe as it has by-passed us (so far!).

I was driving through malaga at about 12.30. It was chucking it down. Driving was very difficult.

Yep our first rain since late April? Heavy at times but not flood material.

I realised today that haven't seen any swallows for a few days. They must have gone. Three days ago , I saw about 50 mixed large raptors circling on the thermals . Quite a surprise as I was led to believe they had all gone some weeks ago.

It must have been bad in some parts of Granada province as a man has been killed:-

There are reports of quite bad flooding in Adra, Almeria too.

Was it a case of the Zacatin falls again Dave ? certainly looked like it :)

Had to mop out my apartment this morning bloody doors, but a lot of debris in the street.

New guests turned out to be from Macclesfield so they are used to it, it always rains in Macc.

It's amazing how localised these thunderstorms are. Big problems within a few km of us, but all we have had all day is a measly 6mm. Heavy, but short burst around 10am but nothing worth commenting on since.

Lyric. Our top drain that takes away all the water had inadvertently been coverd by the cat litter tray. In short, there was no drain. The water came cascading down the stairs and soaked the entire ground floor. Still mopping up.

Had it easy then didn't I, an hour mopping and a ruined rug, shouldn't really happen on the top floor though.

We left malaga today and drove to Archidona for lunch. Bucketed it down most of the way but only a small shower in Archidona. We left around 2.30pm and it started to rain quite heavily as we were leaving.
Cafe Central Archidona is worth a visit.

We popped into Eroski El Ingenio for some supplies and it seemed the entire costa was there sheltering from the rain. First time we've ever seen anyone sitting in Muerda la Pasta at lunch time; it, and everything else, was absolutely rammed.

Very localised. I recorded 52 mm in 12 hours however a station 4 Kms to the south recorded 27 mm and another 6 Kms to the north recorded 17 mm in the same 24 hour period.

I was in Leroy Merlin at 3 PM. They had been closed for 4 hours as the whole store was flooded. A lot of damage has been done so look out for some good bargains in the coming days.

Saw this on Spanish news last night ... like a tsunami going through Adra

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL35LNFxfww

Last night about 1am the sky was just alight with constant flashing to the east of here. Looking at AEMET this morning and the radar at that time, it looks like it was over Almeria again.

We only had about 3/4 inch but it was heavy, brief and horizontal. How does a pluviometer catch that?

Had a drive around this morning and was quite surprised at the damage to campo roads and mud everywhere. No new 50 foot deep barancos like we have when we get serious rain!

Blimey, just watched the youtube video on Adra, thats awful. We have had some thunder and lightening and some rain but absolutely nothing in comparison with other areas.Have to say the weather this summer has been rather weird,we had the awful middle part of August with higher temps than normal and hellish humidity, followed by a real drop in temps, rather like a yo yo.

Morón de la Frontera had bad flooding yesterday around 7.30-8pm we are 10 km north, we had thunder and lightening but just a shower. Our friend was in Morón and sent a photo of a huge hailstone, bigger than a golf ball!
Albuñol has problems, the rambla flooded with water, as they are supposed to, 3 people killed, 2 missing. We had looked at a house there, the way in was across the rambla, we asked about flooding with water.....agent said never happens. We chose not to believe her.

As Mowser said, Frigi was like one enormous waterfall. Frightening and dangerous on the roads.
