Re: Balay
Balay, founded by Esteban Bayona & José María Layrla, is a Spanish company of white products, now owned by the BSH Home Appliances Group. Headquarters are in Zaragoza, but I doubt Sñors Bayona and Layrla are still active !!
If you have a complaint I suggest you ask for the complaints book where you bought the item.

Senior management just wants to vent, #1 Balay dishwasher failed after 6 years, not heating. Heater element failure which brought with it the charming habit of destroying the control board. 2 and a bit years on the replacement Balay diswasher (the other was actually BER all considered) failed.
Heater element failure which brought with it the charming habit of destroying the control board. Repair in excess of 300€ including callout and labour.
She thinks complaining to the top man will help.
Original trader is out of business.

Re: Balay
For white goods, go Bosch. And for tools as well.
Long life, rarely go wrong, and parts quickly available at decent cost.
I know Bosch and Balay are supposedly made in the same factory here in Spain, but there's still a quality difference between the two. Sometimes, the purchase price difference is very small.

Re: Balay
We have 2 filters on the incoming water supply, one catches the big bits of cal and the other has crystals in to soften the water. When we first moved here I was sceptical of the crystals, having had to install a very expensive plumbed-in water softener when we lived in the UK. However, it does seem to work as the kettle never has any cal in it whatsoever. Could it be the cal that has finished off the heating element, in which case Balay wouldn't really have been at fault?

Re: Balay
As a result of the above got to looking at our house in SK9 and as a result found that ;
a. the new owners did much modification to what was a new to us 15 y o house.
b they sold it in 2017 for only 70k more than we sold it to them in 2008. I consider that a poor return especially when they had spent so much on it. Big modifications, wall removal, new kitchen, new bathroom, new en-suite, conservatory etc.
Have SK9 prices been that static ?

Re: Balay
I think it varies depending on proximity to town centre, rail links etc.
Perhaps we ought to continue on a separate thread ? - or get El Cid to move us to the Lounge ?

Re: Balay
Never having used a dishwasher, I have no idea - can you use antical tablets in them, like in a washing machine?
We had all Balay appliances fitted in our apartment when it was new in 2003 (including a dishwasher which still had the original polystyrene packing inside when we sold the place last year!) Washing machine: always used antical pills, and apart from one replacement shock absorber, still going strong and probably good for another 15 years; 4 ring hob: 1 ring died a couple of years ago, otherwise, still going strong; oven/grill: still fine; extractor hood: replaced (with new Balay) a couple of years ago. Really can't complain about Balay - would absolutely buy again.

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often
