I initiated one of those threads and now I am unable to read or comment on the topic. I think I will go walkabout, maybe to a Second Coming of Christ forum, where, hopefully, I will be raptured before I die of boredom.

Hello Mowser

I started a topic on security, G4S and the Olympics. It was taken off because it wasn't about "Andalucia" despite the fact it had over 200 looks and 25 off posts.

It seems my topics are Outside the Rules despite being popular. Perhaps the rules should change or there should be an addition to the board index for non Andalucian topics, after all there is a very big wide world out there and people do seem to be interested.

How do you start a survey on here to find out if that would be a popular idea?

All the best- TerryC

Poll creation is below the posting box when creating a new thread.

I would prefer that you leave it to me to deal with at this stage.

I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I am also moving the thread to "About this Forum".

You could start a poll but if you look back at the thread (providing you can), app. 5 out 7 participants of that thread agreed with it being moved.

I don't think the issue is about moving it as such, more that because the only forum section that allows such posts (Amigos Lounge) is restricted access.

The question is should we have an unrestricted, "off topic" section and I can't answer that until I have discussed it with the site owners.

Does that mean the word thread will be open to everyone

Bit sad really when posters know so little about the country they are in and therefore unable to discuss topics about it...unless it's been in the Daily fail

OK - I said I would get back to you and this is the situation.

We will not be creating a new off topic section. If you want to post an off topic subject then it should be posted in the Amigos Lounge. If you don't have access to the Amigos Lounge you will not be allowed to post it in any other section. If you do it will be moved to the Amigos lounge or deleted at the mods discretion.

I would restate just what it says at the top of the forum:-

”The Andalucia.com forums are intended for those looking for information or resources in Andalucia and Southern Spain”

The General section is not an off topic section, it is a section for posts that meet the main objective of the forum as stated above but which do not specifically fit with the other forum sections.

As it says in the House Rules:-

We generally discourage posts about world events, member’s home country events, politics or television programmes. Although we allow a margin of leeway in the General section.

Again, if topics are considered not to meet these rules they will get moved or deleted.

I know some members will be disappointed with this ruling but my suggestion that we should consider creating a new off topic section has been reviewed, at my request, with the site owners and that is their final decision.

Was there any thought given to reducing or removing the entry qualification for the Amigos Lounge Sid?

That might be a possibility but I guess that the existing Amigos would have a view on that.

I shall raise the question in the Amigos Lounge and see what the response is before I take it any further.

Member's home country events? Politics? TV programmes? :? That will be interesting to see no mention of UK, it's politics, or it's TV. :lolno:

This is not the only forum of its kind, there are more liberal forums. There are also specific politics, natural history, technical, law, motoring forums. In fact there's a forum for almost anything you can think of.
I prefer the liberal approach, but it's not my forum, and if A.com want to keep the "purity" of their open discussion area, that is a matter for them.

Hi Barry - couldn't help noticing that you and Sid joined at roughly the same time and he has posted about 6,600 times more than you

So you think that a persons opinion is only valid if he posts regularly?

No, not at all, far from it - it's just the.........hmmm, don't know how to put it...........I suppose what I'm saying is the number of posts kinda reflects the interest a person has in the forum. Does that make sense?

I would say I'm fairly interested in the forum, but some people have been here for quite a short time and have posted many, many more times than I have. In my eyes, this means they are very dedicated to the virtual life here :) - now - that sounds as if I'm insulting them lol - I'm not, honest. It's just an observation and just my opinion.
