Non posting members
I spent a bit of time looking thru the members list. Did about 25 of the 260 odd pages before my head hurt.
I noticed that there are hundreds of people, some of whom have been members for 10+ years, who've never posted.
I appreciate forums always contain a high percentage of lurkers, and they are doing no harm just being there, but why don't admin have a cull.
BTW... I know the plural of forum isn't forums, but I can't remember what it is.

They join - they go away but they remain on the list of members. There is no process for purging the members list of inactive members.

"Forums or Fora?Rick Gale wrote: BTW... I know the plural of forum isn't forums, but I can't remember what it is.
Fora is sometimes cited as the correct plural for forum. Although it is indeed correct, there is some debate over whether it is the only correct pluralisation. Most online dictionaries provide both fora and forums as acceptable terms.
You will notice that we use the plural forums here at MediaCollege.com. This is for two reasons:
1.It appears to be acceptable English.
2.It is the pragmatic solution.
Whilst we are against most forms of language dumbing-down, we are also against unnecessary complication. Everyone knows and understands the word forums. Most people don't know what fora means. There is almost no chance of changing that situation significantly, no matter how hard the purists might want to. Like the failed Esperanto language, we believe reality wins over idealism. It's sad but inescapably true.
We don't believe it makes sense to promote fora as the "correct" pluralisation because it creates confusion, offers no real benefit, and can't work anyway so it's pointless trying."

Re: Non posting members
This has been debated on here before
Forum is a word that has generally not been used by the masses for generations. To me forums indicate the internet type and Fora might mean the more traditional type but even them I prefer to use logic and make sound it less Latin.
I agree, not sure why it's should be sad though. Logic should always win."Forums or Fora?Rick Gale wrote: BTW... I know the plural of forum isn't forums, but I can't remember what it is.

Especially what we are doing is talking about different types of forumWe don't believe it makes sense to promote fora as the "correct" pluralisation because it creates confusion, offers no real benefit, and can't work anyway so it's pointless trying."

concerning the OP there must be a suitable punishment, i suggest sending them all to Wales where they will not understand the language either and there is probably no internet in the valleys then they will conform to our rules....

A.com is an SL co. and Chris and his team are alive and kicking (I think) in Estepona.
Re: Non posting members
I rarely post but look at the forum several times most days. I find it an invaluable source of information. Just because people don't post doesn't mean they are not looking.I usually find that lots of the things I would want to say have already been said. Hence my silence !

Re: Non posting members
That's a very valid point.
However, if nobody posted there would be nuffin to read.
Which is stating the blindingly obvious.

Re: Non posting members
I'm amazed this thread has lasted as long as this.
As we have seen already not everybody wants or needs to post here. That does not mean very many 'Lurkers' do not gain a great of information and useful advice from this site. Very many people are quite happy to peruse the threads and gain a great deal of useful information that helps them live happily here in Spain.
You cannot infer that people who do not post on the site are not interested in living in Spain anymore.
