Goldcar horror car hire story

Postby ashtondav » Thu Sep 04, 2014 10:41 am

Why are these sc*mbags still allowed to operate, they consistently flout the rules and encourage illegal haranging by their staff. They are a disgrace to customer service, car hire and any country in which they operate.

This is by no means an isolated case.

I tell friends and family who stay in my apartment to stick with Helle Hollis if they really feel they must have a hire car. They may be a little more expensive and their office may be about a km away but it is worth the extra cost and the effort of getting to the office.

Only on one occasion has someone decided to attempt to save a few euros and use some shady outfit within the airport and guess who are the only ones to have had a problem and ended up paying far more.
Let's go Brandon!

And I got told off by a member on this forum when i said that Goldcar was the worst rental company in Spain?
It's now the worst in Portugal and possibly the rest of the world.

Glad I persevere with the hassles of getting my little Vitara ITV'd every year and don't go the easy route of hiring which I'm sometimes tempted with.

I'd end up in prison if treated like that, I swear I'd wreck the office. I can feel myself shaking now

I would also second Helle Hollis,we had a series of car disasters mostly involving paperwork and had to hire a car for a month and the company provided excellent service at a competitive price.

I was just about to make the same comment. Just back from five days around San Pedro /Estepona and every second rental car had a Goldcar sticker on it. Can't understand why people deal with them. It really does appear that consumers will tolerate crap service etc in order to save a few euro.

Glad to hear that jogger - I've booked with them for the first time when I go out in November :D

As an aside, whenever we hired from Goldcar or any other firm with similar bright ''attachments', the stickers always managed to 'fall off' before we even left the airport   - well, no point in advertising the fact that you're only visiting, is there...?

We always take the back window sticker off as soon as we leave the airport and just put it back on when returning. Just seems to us the stickers are a target for thieves.

...the other giveaway signal that it's a rental is if the car doesn't have alloy wheels, the rental company has removed the wheel covers, exposing the black metal wheels below; having a sticker above the fuel tank filler point reading "sin plomo 95" or "diesel" is another confirmation that you are driving a rental.

Always remove all stickers
