I have a long-haul flight towards the end of the month with long-ish layovers in Frankfurt and Johannesburg. My luggage will be checked through from Seville to final destination. I have seen a baggage wrapping service in Seville airport and, with my luggage lying around in transit for two periods of 3 or 4 hours, I'm wondering if it might be as well to add an extra layer of security.
I'd be interested to hear peoples experiences of this type of service.

Re: Luggage wrap - experiences?
Can't get my head around why anyone would bother doing this.
Yes, have noticed this "service" at Seville airport.
But then again, that may be just me !

Hi rafiki,
Go for it, Mrs Enrique (frequent flyer) uses it a lot and its worked out OK.
One destination you can't use it for is USA, they like to see your contents.

All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Thanks Enrique. Jo'burg is a particular hotspot for luggage tampering and mine will languish there for a 4 hour layover.

Hi rafiki,
Sounds a wise move for that part of the World.
She wished it was possible to use to USA as on a stop over stuff was removed from her luggage.
Don't take anything that can't be replaced , so no family heirlooms.
Daughter had stuff removed when she was on a Hockey Tour in South Africa and flying between places.

Re: Luggage wrap - experiences?
Perhaps a deterrent to opportunistic thieves but having watched luggage handlers at Nairobi slice open bags in a few seconds I doubt it would make a difference. Some places in Africa just take the suitcase.
Re: Luggage wrap - experiences?
I haven't taken notice of the output from the Seville service but seeing some luggage on carousels which is just in plain shrink-wrap I wonder how people identify theirs. My suitcase is covered with lots of stickers which I can recognise immediately...

Re: Luggage wrap - experiences?
There are some items that have to be wrapped at most airports eg, musical instruments and large sports gear that won't go in a suitcase. They have to be preincluded etc. And when folk haven't done it, I have seen them pulled to the side and told how to do it. I think it is an extra cost. But I don't know what the procedure is for suitcases. Maybe you could ask. Not sure if it is an extra cost but shouldn't think so
Re: Luggage wrap - experiences?
Thanks all. I think I'll spend the 6€. Even if it just deters the opportunist it may be worth it. I lived in Africa for 13 years travelling widely by air and never had a single problem but that was 30 years ago.
