Hi elusive,
Yes............worth a visit...........

From our Sponsor................... :D

http://www.andalucia.com/province/grana ... o/home.htm

"The most impressive building is the massive round church 'Iglesia de Encarnación' It is 27 metres in diameter and has walls 3 metres thick. The dome is the third largest in the world. "

You may be able to get the key and walk around the top of the Dome.............. unless you have a problem with heights..........

Some stunning pictures................

I would second that. Well worth a trip. The dome is very interesting. I thought the dome was the fourth largest - still very very impressive. I tell our vistors St Pauls Uk, the one in Rome, one in Brazil are bigger (in no particular order)

If you want somewhere to eat midday'ish then on the road out of Montefrio , direction of Illora/Granada there is a nice place on the left maybe 4 km out. Got stone sculptures out front and has just had a facelift with better outside area.

Hi olive,

"I thought the dome was the fourth largest"...........was not sure on correctness of that info as I've always thought Mosta (Malta)Church dome to be third.
That too is well worth a visit............. :D

Having a look on street view and at the iglesia de la ville on google maps it shows a viewing point when you click on the 360 degree image. Looking on the map and street view i cant see where the viewing point actually is.does anyone know exactly where it is and how to get to it

Went to M.F yesterday. Beautiful little place. Not a huge amount to see compaired to other places but tbh its all about the views of the town which were stunning. Spent a few hours there and walked upto the church. The countryside around it is beautiful aswell. Well worth a day trip

Just used google maps. Took exit 118 at granada and then the N432. Came back via the A92? Below the N432

Hi,
Will depend on where you're starting out from.......... you don't have a location on your profile to help any Posters give specific directions.

A nice drive up from the A-92 is the A-335 from Junctn km211

We stayed in a little b&b outside montefrio last year.

Fantastic restaurant near the church, el pregonero. Try the morcilla y chorizo entrante.

We also went to a little gift shop in the square and brought chorizo, morcilla, cheese, and local goods back with us.

We stayed here : cortijo le fe http://www.booking.com/Share-fWcETF

But if you are looking for a hotel in montefrio, book early- nearly every one on booking.com is sold out or only has a couple of rooms left !
