Passports

Postby Lavanda » Mon Jul 23, 2018 2:04 pm

I've just done the 'checking-in on-line' for my trip to see my parents in two weeks and, for the first time, I looked at my passport properly. It has 'European Union' written at the top of the cover. In six months, when we are NOT in the EU how can we travel with documents that are not valid? Can anyone tell me NOW what will happen as I like to plan my trips to see my parents in advance. Thanks.

Check it out but i believe that you can get a new one and have outstanding 'time' added to it

Also the transition period may have an effect but we just don't know yet

Thanks Maureen. My passport is two months old. However, I don't supposed the Passport Office knows what will happen, either, and so just issued the usual EU one!!!

Having just paid over 100 pounds to renew mine, I am not getting a new post Brexit one unless it's free. UK driving licences are EU ones too so will everyone have to change those?

Depends how picky the passport controls are in other European countries, I suppose.

Mine says
European Union
United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
A Spanish one says
Unìon Europea
España
Meaning I have a UK passport and my wife has a Spanish one. Both show that our countries are members of the EU but our nationalities are different.
Having said that, I suspect some daft irks will pay in advance to change their passport to the new blue one when they start to be produced.

You use it until it expires then a get a new one which will be blue and have whatever wording they will use on it.

I know Mark, but a UK in the EU will not exist, will it? Therefore we will be travelling with a passport for a country that is not anywhere.

It's still a UK passport whether is says EU on the front or not. It would take them years and vast cost to reissue them all!
