interesting neighbourhoods in Malaga city area and beyond

Postby solar7 » Sat Oct 12, 2019 7:55 pm

Hi

3 of us will be in Malaga next week and we would love to hear ideas for visiting interesting neighbourhoods in the Malaga city area (or within 1 hour by public transport we will not have a car). For some local experiences, cultural experiences, affordable local food, cafes/bars.... away from the tourist areas.

any modern art galleries we should seek out?

thanks

El Chorro (Caminito del Rei). There is a train station there but you would need to check train times. Ronda is lovely and worth a visit. Buses go from Malaga I think. Antequera. There are plenty of museums and galleries in the region. Malaga has a big tourist info office. Twice when I have been in Malaga, we have hired a car for a couple of days - once just for 24 hours. Goldcar office is just across the road from Maria Zambrano railway station.

Just east of the city centre is Pedregalejo and El Palo. Well worth a walk along or get the bus, nice bars and restaurants and a great atmosphere. Also a good mix of Spanish and cosmopolitan.

I wouldnt touch goldcar with a barge pole. Antequera is lovely and not so well known.although that might change as we saw some tui coaches there the last time we went

La Concepción botanical gardens are above the town in the hills, there's a city bus that goes up there, very nice to spend an afternoon wandering around.

Elusive. i agree Goldcar at airports and plenty other hire companies at airports are really bad. Had lots of bad experiences. That's why didn't hire at airport those times. Too much hassle. but we wanted to make a couple of trips and the downtown office was a completely different experience.
