History of Axarquia

Postby Grouser » Sat Dec 10, 2005 6:46 pm

Can anyone recommend a book in English covering the history of Axarquia, particularly in Roman and Moorish times, or failing that one more generally covering Andalucia? Not too dry please

Not specific to Axarquia but a good read all the same - IN SEARCH OF ANDALUCIA by Christopher Wawn + David Wood. Published by THE PENTLAND PRESS LTD. ISBN no. 1-85821-690-7

Thanks Brenda,
It must be a very opulent or rare book. I tracked it down on Amazon and they want £59.95 for a second hand copy, which is a bit beyond my price range I'm afraid.

I got a new hard back edition from W H Smiffs in Nerja at cover price of 24 Pounds UK. Amazon price ridiculous!

Amazon charge £24 for the current 2003 edition.

Grouser obviously looked at the older edition which is, indeed, £59.

Quite right Sid, after reading your posting I went back and re-searched and found the new copy. For some reason when I went to Amazon from google only the old copy came up. Don't quite follow the logic of an older edition costing more than twice as much as a new one though.

Grouser - you would be more than welcome to borrow my copy when you are out here. See whether it is what you want before buying.

That's very generous of you Brenda. I would certainly like a look at a copy before I buy one, although having been to my local bookshop and looked at everything on his computer, with the word Andalucia in the title, there doesn't seem to be any choice. Have e-mailed you
