Sid. I mentioned this as the cheap Chinese shops sell "aircon" units that are simply a fan blowing over ice.
In short - make sure you get a "real" aircon unit.

It is still quite warm for this time of the year. I had to have the fan on for a short time yesterday. It is due to go down a few notches tomorrow though.

On cost I do have to say my bill was surprisingly low considering I had the air-con on day and night and also the fan at the same time! I was pleasantly surprised!! and it is not a cheap one, one of those large portable ones. Phew I could not have managed without it though. England here I come next year, couldn't bear another summer like that. I would rather have a UK winter than that hot summer. As Mark Twain has said " the worst winter I have ever had was in South Africa" or words to that effect!

After all the heat of July and August, September was actually the coldest for the last ten years - a very pleasant change after the hottest summer ever.

October is, so far, pretty typical. Unsettled, rain at times , but still very pleasant temperatures. I always expect October to produce the lowest electricity consumption of the year as no heating or A/C is required.

I almost got a heart attack when I saw the electric bill for the summer.

October will be my favourite if we get a hard frost to kill off the cochineal beasties!

Por ... I too have had more than enough of those cochineal beasties ... I had hoped that much lower temperatures and heavy rain would stop them coming ... but no ...

The nights are nice and cool now but we are still finding it very hot in the sun ie when we are trying to do something in the garden thinking it has cooled off a bit. We had a walk on Torrox Costa the other day and I got burnt

We too were dreading our electricity bill for July and August as we had all our fans on all day and night. I know they are not very high powered but it does add up over a couple of months. Much to our surprise our usage was down a little compared with the same period last year and the bill was under 100 € for the 2 months so no problem. We think maybe our new fridge freezer is more efficient than the old one and may have compensated a bit for the extra use of the fans.

You are right Wicksy. Perhaps I have my new fridge/freezer to thank for the reasonable electricity bill that I got this summer despite non stop use of the Air con!

Thank god it is cooler now. I still found September unusually hot, perhaps it is because we are in Torrox I have found even these few days in October to be hotter than usual, but perhaps it is just me. My heat tolerance is going.

We've used our air-con more this year than ever before and we have numerous units but our summer electric bill was actually quite a bit lower than usual. ( under 200 euros for the 2 month period, normally 300+ euros ).
Most of our rooms are reasonably large and we have 230 sq. mtrs approx living area, so we are pleased.!
We are all electric, no smelly/ smoky fires and although we do have a gas heater it is only kept as a stand-by.
We decided not to have open fires,or log burners because of the inconvenience, smell and general mess, storage of logs etc.
Two of our rooms haven't been decorated for 10 years, but still look mint and we don't have any black mould.
I know it is a question of personal choice and it is nice to be sat in front of a log fire etc.,but we find a total electric household a cleaner and healthier lifestyle ..
If we feel cold we put on another jumper..or go for a walk !
Regards,
Gordon..

It is too hot at the moment for anything like that. But no I don´t just put up with cold feed or use warm slippers. Still feels like Autumn to me and a warm one at that.

We have some rugs for winter - especially ones at the side of the bed to avoid that "!&@%#*^!" Moment when warm feet hit freezing tiles.

We have a large rug in the lounge and smaller bedside rugs for the bedrooms and a vinyl washable mat for the kitchen...Not good to stand too long on tile floors !

I'm pondering buying a property which is front line, literally overlooking the sea. The vendor tells me that during the hot spell it was a lot less sticky to sleep at this property due to the cooling sea breeze - is this likely to be fair comment?

Appreciate confirmation, or other thoughts please!
