British groceries

Postby Muppet02 » Mon Aug 14, 2017 10:09 am

Hi Everyone,

I'll be staying over night in Malaga on Tuesday and would really like to stock up on British groceries before flying on to Colombia. We are primarily looking for British sausages and baked beans (usual suspects :D ). I've googled and only really found stores in fuengirola (quite a few actually) selling these goods. I know that there are Carrefour in Malaga, but am not aware if they sell brit bangers and beans!

If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I'd be really glad.

Regards,

Iceland in Fuengirola will have all you want. Their meat and sausages are excellent. It's worth the extra mileage to go there.

If it is this Tuesday , the 15th, beware it is Assumption Day and most places are shut. I think Iceland are open but with restricted hours.

I think you will find most of the large supermarkets, including Iceland, will be open tomorrow during their normal opening hours.
Shops in Spain tend to ignore this particular holiday.
Cheers

Be careful - are you allowed to import the likes of sausages (processed meat products, cheese, fresh veg, etc) into Colombia? Most countries have strict rules about what you can bring in ...
Now tinned sausages would be OK .... and no problem with Baked Beans

I forgot it was a bank holiday tomorrow. This is not a question I have had to ask on here in all the time I've been a member of A.com so forgive my indulgence . My wife wants to go to La Cañada shopping centre tomorrow.
Is it going to be open? 8)

When we visited the dodgy area of Marbella we found La Cañada closes for local and national holidays. May be best to check on't internet site or better the website of the shop she is aiming to go to.

Thanks to both of you. BTW. I have noticed a few pound shops springing up around Spain. Found one under the Dealz banner in Madrid and their website says there is one in Torrimolinos as well.
It's more of a 1euro fifty shop and a great place to buy chocolate and other bits and pieces.

Dealz is the Irish brand name for Poundland. The first Spanish branch opened in Torremolinos. Most items are priced at €1,50. It's constantly busy with tourists. All the locals still go to the Chinese bazaars to buy much of the same stuff for a euro. :shh:

You don't say where in Málaga you are staying?

If it's in the city then there are two dealz shops in the centre, one near the bus & train station Maria zumbrano and the other on the way out towards the airport on the road avenida valasquez. Parking at both is a nightmare, the valasquez shop is the bigger of the two.

You won't find sausages there, but you will get beans.

As an aside, mercadona also sell baked beans, but they are more of a "happy shopper" type brand for about 1 euro each tin.

For sausages, you would have to go to Iceland for packs of them - fresh & frozen, or to an English butcher, of which there are a few, in fuengerola, Alhaurín el grande etc

They were all open today. I went to Mercadona and then to Lidls and they were empty so it was great to do all my shopping without the hoards shopping with trolleys loaded to the brim.

I'm currently in La Cañada, following my wife around and extremely bored.
Everything is open, a pity really since I would have prefered to be relaxing by the pool.

Never struggled to get a spot.. its good for all the uk produce cosmetics, chocolate biscuits etc.. totally diff to the chinese shops
