Postby Peshma » Sun Jan 07, 2018 1:04 pm

Does anyone have any information re Legislation (Spanish or EU) about the use of well water for drinking and domestic use?
Thanks in anticipation

Hola
If you rent your house out, then the law has changed regarding getting the water in potable (drinking water) state.

I know of nothing else that has changed

In order for us to get our certificate from the Ajuntamiento we had to get official water safety certification. This had to be sent off to a reference approved lab rather than just to the local pharmacy. We use a combination of well water and delivered water. It all came back fine.

When we moved here, we had our well water analysed, we were told that it wasn’t quite up to drinking quality; nevertheless, the Spanish blokes renovating our house drank this water saying that “the water around here is good”?
After a couple of years using the well water, for most things except drinking, we decided that any impurities would have flushed out and we’ve been drinking it ever since.
All the houses in our village have well water, and I’ve never heard of any legislation about registering the wells, maybe different areas have different rules on the matter?

Hola

All wells should be registered but there are only 2,000 legal wells in my area with 16,500 illegal houses with (mostly) illegal wells.

However if you want to rent your house for short periods, as in holiday lets, then you must get it certified as drinking water in Andalucia and some other autonomous authorities

All wells should show up on the catastral plans and should be registered. We have had ours tested and it came back as drinkable .... but that is for personal use, one can see the complications for renting it out ...

Just so you know there are atmospheric water generators available on the market today, cheap ones only cost a few hundred euro. If you only need it for drinking water it is probably much cheaper than to legalize a well.
