ID cards for resident Brits?
No idea if this is kosher, but today's Costa Blanca News reports "BRITISH expats legally registered as resident in Spain will have to apply for a new third-country national identity card after March 29, the scheduled date for Brexit as Spain continues to prepare for hard Brexit."
I cannot put more as although I have paid 2.20 for the paper they want me to pay more to access the e-paper..

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?
That s correct. It is a TIE. (Tarjeta de Identidad de Entranjera).
It should be a simple, no charge, process.
As Beachcomber said, at least we will get a decent ID card. Bear in mind that officially the only legally acceptable ID remains a valid British passport.

Anyone seen one of these cards. Is it a proper one with a photo etc. All legal brits will just do a straight swap.

It is almost the same as the old Residencia card. Picture on this site

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?
Had a quick look at the website which gives a link to the one needed for an appointment.
Filled in my details and was offered an choice of appointments for 3, 4 or 5th March.
This is at the Torre del Mar police station.
So no long waiting times for an appointment at the moment.
Will probably change after 29th March when we all know what is happening.
Cheers
Gerry

It would depend on how effectively it is enforced. The “ghosts” will be a mix of the naive, the unaware, the ‘smart alecs’ the knowing dodgers and benefit fraudsters, plus I dare say a few criminals on the run. The wealthy and well-connected will no doubt continue as before, with the rest being detected by just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?
It seems to say that we can apply after 29 March (providing that remains the date of leaving). Not sure if the local authorities will be on the ball as to us being able to get one just yet.
I am hoping it will be the case as it would be so useful. I still carry around my old one but being 10 years out of date the difference between the photo and me in reality is become a bit more noticeable!!

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?
Is the TIE the norm for non-EU folk who become resident? When we updated our residence paperwork following the move to Murcia the person before us seemed to have fingerprints taken and other different processes.

Re: ID cards for resident Brits?
My understanding is that if you already have a certificado de registro you will automatically be asked to exchange for a Tie. No need to apply.

Our fingerprints are on our original residencia card. Let's hope that we shall get proper ID cards for the future.peteroldracer wrote:Is the TIE the norm for non-EU folk who become resident? well that would be nice. I wonder if they will make it a "heres an appointment, come get it" sorta deal, or its gonna be a "make an appointment, bring 3486237456378453784 copies of everything" thing like always ??
