temporary accomodation

I am hoping to sell my house and move to live in Jan 2006. As I don't have a definate date I can't pre book anything I also would (hopefully) only need to stay somewhere 6-8 weeks. I was wondereing if it would be better to come on a self-catering holiday for some of the time or try to rent somewhere . I have family to look after my dog and store my things but obviously want this to be as short a time as possible. Any one been in a similar situation?
