Roca in Granada(near the old AKI store) had a display solar water heater outside for a few months. It was about 300 euros and included the on demand electric pump. You turn a tap and bingo you have hot water. Don't know what controls(if any) there were to stop the water being too hot. The gubbins was housed in a grey fibreglass box a bit bigger than the angled top roadside salt boxes in the UK and it obviously had to face the sun.
Three years ago we looked at a house in Catalonia that had the mother and father of a solar electric system. Huge array of panels, A large block built large room full of batteries, switch gear, back up generator, fuel tank. All situated a little way from and below the house. It had cost 24,000 euros and at the time we thought it a lot but when you see the quotes people get for connection to mains in the countryside you wonder!!

Spain are the largest manufacturers of solar panels and there are grants in place, its just the mentality of the people. But dont despair the government are making it obligatory for new houses of certain specifications to have solar heating and it will as always develop and develop to a point where all houses must have them.toddcl wrote:Gisela Radant
I still can't quite understand why a country with so much sunshine is so slow to develop affordable solar energy systems.
Geothermal is also interesting particularly for new builds
