Postby ashfieb » Tue Jun 30, 2009 6:21 pm

Anyone know of a nice place for a Sunday roast in Nerja, not too far from the Balcon area if possible.

Depends on your definition of sunday roast :-)

Ayos on the Burriana do a great sunday roast pork, and if you are quick you can grab a plate of crispy crackling. Aside from the meat tho' it isn't anything like a UK roast, but it is absolutely delicious and we will be down there partaking this Sunday.

Whilst I agree that Ayo's Pork special on a Sunday is delicious it is not the same as a "traditional Sunday Roast".
The Coach and Horses, up the road from the Balcon past the post office does a Sunday roast. Never tried it so don't know if it is any good.
I always go to Ayo's on Sundays for a paella.

Anyone remember the original Ayo's, before the place was covered in concrete? It was owned by one Graeme Maynard, the guy that built most of Capistrano illegally, and I remember watching the Roger Cook programme, trying to interview Maynard, but he was hiding in the Ayo's, he refused to come out! :D

On Burriana Beach, Bakers Bar do a great traditional UK Sunday roast, beef or pork from 1:00pm. In the town, Sloan's in Calle Los Huertos do a very popular Sunday Roast and Finlays Bar do a roast every day.

Hi Enrique,

We are used to the heat living inland in Antequera, but today we have been out for cold tapas. One of the restaurants here has a water mist system which sprays the air with cold water which cools you down a lot .

Hi Barry I know this is an old thread but if you still have a craving for a Sunday roast on a cold winters day then you can't go far wrong with Margarita's bar in Mollina, they do a fab carvery for 9€. Lots of other places do too such as Natz in Humilladero and Meson on the square (formerly Oscars) in Fuente De Piedra. Mollina also has a fab Italian called La Casa, a nice Spanish called La Brasa and a lovely Chinese with really cheap menu and great set meals for 2/4 etc.

Diana.

Hi Diana,

We are in the UK at the moment, waiting for the rain in Spain to go away. Will give Mollina a try on our return.

Although I do like most Spanish food, I still like my Sunday Roast..usually Beef...followed by home made rice pudding....Yum Yum....

And I don't mind the Spanish cold rice pud, usually served with my peasant Menu-del-dia, which we eat regularly....

And now I feel hungry...but I'm on a diet...b ugger... :(

Regards,
Gordon...

Actually my husband makes a better roast beef dinner than any restaurant I have ever been in, in any country, but I can't expect him to cook ALL the time...can I ?

After living here for several years now, I must admit to sometimes looking for a good roast dinner when I go out to eat. Last week I found one in Nerja that I can truly recommend. I went to La Galleria in Calle Los Huertos. As well as a really huge menu, they also do a menu del Dia (€9, I think) and the 3 Course Roast menu (€11) and they offer a different roast each day, so it is not specifically a Sunday Roast as is the subject of this post.
I went on Saturday and the roast was New Zealand Lamb. It was beautiful and served with roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, gravy and mint sauce. Scrumptious, and loads of thick sliced meat. They have very good starters and deserts too. I had coronation chicken to start, and banana split to finish. Plus a really good house wine. It was certainly among the the best roast dinners I have had in a restaurant in Nerja in more than 7 years here.
