Postby cjjb98d » Mon May 09, 2011 10:43 am

Hi There

Myself and girlfriend are traveling later this month to Fuengirola and I would like to know where we can get some good quality traditional Spainish food and drink?

No tourist traps allowed.

Thanks

Chris

Salamanca,just off Church square,is excellent.
Always full with locals and tourists in the know,so get there before the locals eat.
Very spanish and run by nice people.
And very reasonable!

Thats very helpful, thank you.

Currently we have El Toston and Don Pe up on the list. Also, where are good bars for Sangria and cheaper drinks? What are the secrets togetting cheap pints.

Also where are the best markets that arn't aimed at tourists?

Thanks for your help, really looking forward to doing to Costa Del Sol for the first time!

You will find it difficult to avoid tourists in Fuengirola. There are more Brits there than any other place. The Don Pe you mention is a tourist trap. Cheapest beer is in the British bars.

All markets are aimed at tourists, other than food markets.

hi Fish Alley Known to the brits is the main restaurant area of Fuengirola Known to the Spanish locals as Calle ambre (hungry street) real name Calle Moncayo, this is where you will find most of the tourists, one restaurant I can recommend here is Restaurant Unique very good traditional Spanish meals, not over priced.
If you want to. get away from touists, bearing in mind that August is the main holiday time for the majority of Spanish people so the whole of Fuengirola will be busy, visit the numerous bars and traditional Spanish restaurants that have opened in the last 2 years in the Square behind the Correos building (post office)
If you are looking for really nice traditional Tapa , a small Spanish bar I use when visiting Fuengirola is called El Tropazon, in the same street as dunnes store car park enterance and las Rampas hotel,
don't be put off by it's appearance , the food is really good,
Something to consider the majority of people eat late from 9.30 until 1 am is normal here, and all restaurants get really busy, which slows down the service, so be prepared to be patient or eat early as most restaurants would be pleased to see you and the service is much quicker.

Cheap beer ? a pint of lager can vary from as low as 1.50e to 3.50e it is always best to ask the price first and decide if you want to pay that much in that bar. spirits and mixers average 4.50e for branded spirits , cheaper for local house spirits, the mixers are always expensive.
Hope this has been helpful and enjoy your visit
