Can anyone recommend a good Estate / Lettings Agent please?

Postby jlt » Wed Apr 18, 2007 10:54 am

Hi

We are hoping to move to west Costa Del Sol, between Marbella and Gibraltar, hopefully maybe between Estepona and Gibraltar, and we would much appreciate it if anyone could recommend a good agent we can contact who deals with property letting in that area?

Thanks for your time!

That would be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Be careful!

I have no idea if they're any good but you could try this crowd. Seem to deal in Gibraltar and Spanish properties

www.SotograndeVillaSales.com

Robert Laver has great knowledge of this area together with a good reputation!!
Although he mainly deals in villa sales, as his website suggests, I am sure he would be helpful.

Good luck!

you could try and find your own rent by googling with... alquiler pisos marbella.. even if you don´t know much Spanish.. its quite easy to understand.

If you took a short holiday over there, you can look around all the areas to find where you want to set yourself up, then just look around you for the Se Alquila signs on people's windows/balconys etc.
At least that way, when you call them up, you'll know what you're looking at. Viewing properties through agents can be a bit of a lottery, plus the rent you'll pay will be hiked up to cover the agents fees.

You could try VIVA who also have a flat renting division and only charge 2% commission

Not sure if your still looking but there is a company based in Elviria called www.homecareontheweb.com , they do all sorts of rentals, sales and management. From Sotogrande area to Malaga.

Hope you find something and welcome to the sunny coast!! (not)

I would be very cautious as to the advice offered here jlt -it appears that you just gave people an opportunity to advertise themselves.
If you look through the other expat websites you will read that Viva and ADH are constantly getting slated -with viva the 2% commission thing was a scam, and recently they pumped their commissions back up. ADH has been accused of high pressure sales and no aftercare. These sort of companies make very dishonest claims when it comes to things like rental returns.
As for sotogrande estate agents -I have only had bad experiences with them. Maybe the person mentioned above is the exception to the rule, but I would be very cautious in dealing with that slippery bunch of chancers.

Definitely rent before you buy -unless you have a good knowledge of this area you will be particularly vulnerable to getting ripped off. Be warned, it is a jungle out here and your experiences in the UK market won't be of any help to you.
Good luck.
