Thanks for that - just common sense really. I shall put that link in my library for future use.

But what really annoys me is when motorists who don’t know the overtaking rule just stay behind them and makes it much more difficult to legally cross the line and overtake.

Yes, that clearly states that you can cross the white line under certain circumstances such as overtaking cyclists.

But not if the Guardia are behind you. They never need much of an excuse to fine you a €100.

But I think the Guardia make it up as they go along. Depends what sort of day they are having. God cop bad cop sort of thing.

I'm sure the cop or Guardia officer thinks the same about whoever they stop! Our actions influence their reaction etc.
