LEAGUE OPENER FOR JUNIOR RUGBY

On Saturday 24th October, the first LEAGUE match of the season for Juniors for Andalucia Rugby kicked off in Motril. Univeristy of Granada´s Under 16´s and Under 14´s against the combined team of Motril and Axarquia (Velez-Malaga) Rugby Clubs. Meanwhile Jaen played host to the rugby club of Almeria.

The 12 boys of Motraxa under-16´s were completely outmuscled and out-numbered by their Granada opponents who went on to win convincingly through powerful forward play and excellent back running, the final score 58-0.

Meanwhile the Under 14´s played an exciting match with much skill seen from both sides. Granada scored 4 early tries to lead by 22-0 at half time. Motraxa fought hard in the second half, and both sides had good chances but there was no further score until the last 7 minutes when Granada ran in a further 3 tries in the closing minutes to record a 39-0 victory.

All teams are looking to encourage more and more juniors to join the clubs - beginners and novices will be welcomed with open arms, as well as more experienced players. All clubs are affiliated to the The Andalacian Rugby Union Federation and the junior league needs as many teams as possible.

Training for Axarquia Rugby Club is held at the Fernando Hierro Stadium in Velez-Malaga every Tuesday and Thursday from 19.00 to 20.30. The seniors train the same days, starting at 20.30.
