Freezer Door Seal

Postby Parilla » Sat Sep 10, 2016 5:03 am

I have a Balay fridge/freezer, bought in 2004 and apart from needing a new door seal for the freezer part, working perfectly.
I can't source a new seal anywhere, even from Balay themselves who are absolutely ####### useless. I'm just getting "part not available" messages from everywhere, and no helpful suggestions other then buy a new one !

Does anyone know if there is any sort of after-market supplier about, Spain or UK ? Or any suggestions.

I really don't fancy having to buy a new F/F just because a bit of plastic has perished.

Thanks,
Parilla

Most Balay white goods items have a more-or-less exact Bosch model equivalent.
In Spain, Balay and Bosch are made in the same factory.
Bosch spares readily available, and site has drawings, part numbers and on-line ordering facility; delivery really quick.
http://www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/spareparts/search, or other country if preferred.

I got our cooker door hinges for a Balay in the uk online and fitted them myself. Balay don’t sell the parts, they want to send an engineer out. I fitted the part in 20 minutes and saved 80 Euros in labour.

Thanks for your replies gents.

Gerry, have already had "live chat" with repairing.es and they have nothing to fit. Did say they would see if they could find one, but not heard from them yet. I'll chase them up next week.

Peter, have also seen the espares uk part you mentioned but that one is size restricted at 1300x700. My model is 1860x595, so I have emailed to ask if they have anything similar which would fit. Will chase them next week.

Torre, again already emailed Bosch to see if they have anything compatible for a Balay - the website doesn't recognise a Balay model number. Added to my chasing list for next week.

Costa, you are spot on, Balay are not interested in selling parts, all they'll do is send a technico out for a charge. I don't need a b....y technico, I know what's wrong, I just want the part which I can fit in less than 5 minutes.

Thanks again for suggestions, which is one of the best things about this forum. When I've solved the problem, I'll post the result.

I had a Balay washing machine and needed to replace the glass in the door when it broke. Having been unable to source a replacement locally, I emailed the spares supplier which was named in the instruction manual (sorry I don't still have the details as the machine has since been replaced and I didn't keep the old manual, but they were based in Zaragoza). I got a prompt reply confirming that yes, they could supply a replacement and I could either collect it from their depot in Málaga or have it delivered to the door for an additional €6. I opted for delivery which came via DHL, and I didn't have to pay for it in advance, it was cash on delivery.

If you click on the right arrow sign to bring up the next picture in the slide show it will show you the doors, including the door seals and their part numbers.

Enrique and Gerry, thank you, great work - you've enabled me to find the manufacturer's exact part number. If I can't locate a new seal from the info I have now, I should be put out to grass.

Just out of interest, I was told last might of a temporary measure to keep the freezer working well, and despite my suspicions I tried it this morning and the freezer has been working perfectly all day, we now have abundant ice again. Clean down the seal and the equivalent edges of the carcass where the seal meets, and rub Vaseline over the seal. It really works though obviously not a permanent solution - the plastic seal feels more flexible, and the door really holds firmly to the carcass, opening it is like pulling against a vacuum.

You say you need new door seals for the freezer door.
Wouldn't one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fixapart-Univ ... Sw7FRWT8OR be suitable?
It would need cutting down to size as the fridge door part of a 1300x700 fridge/ freezer is probably bigger than the freezer door part of a 1860x595 frige/freezer.
You could always contact the sellertfor the exact dimmensions of the kit.

I have used the following company for seals for a freezer and an oven door, both fitted perfectly.
