Chainsaw Chain Sharpening
I spend hours of my life sharpening the chain by hand. I've noticed you can get electric sharpeners. Has anyone used one and is it a worthwhile investment? One of my observations is you can't take it with you but it might get the chain bright in the shed before setting off.
Re: Chainsaw Chain Sharpening
I use a chainsaw for work and just take my chains to the local Stihl maintenance guy. He charges a few euros per chain. Life is too short.

If I remember correctly, we took ours to the 'industrial' poligono in Antequera near the hospital). There was a place that sold all this type of equipment, and I think they charged around 4 € to sharpen it ( it was a few years ago, so may be more

Re: Chainsaw Chain Sharpening
I have an electric sharpener; it takes me about 5 minutes to sharpen a chain with pretty satisfactory accuracy. Don't know why anyone could not use it... completely automatic once you set it up....simples! Highly recommended! Got mine from Amazon.

Isn't it strange that it is illegal to spray a few weeds, yet anyone can buy a tool easily capable of taking off a leg or even a head......

Yes but it probably would only be the operators leg/ head.
Randomly spraying weed killer can kill your weeds, the neighbours crops and, being airborne, the neighbours and their animals etc.

I also have an electric chain saw sharpener and find it comparatively quick and easy to use. I have wood delivered but not ready cut into logs and the amount I save by cutting it up myself paid for the sharpener in just one delivery. I'm getting a bit old and creaky to do it now but it helps keep me fit!

Re: Chainsaw Chain Sharpening
I've got one of the Amazon chainsaw sharpeners too, and it does work, but even when set up very carefully it wasn't giving chains the length of cutting life they had when new.
Swapped to genuine Stihl tungsten-carbide tipped chains (PM3 1/4" for our Bosch electric AK35-19S), and find that these chains have extraordinarily long life, provided you keep them away from stones and nails! The Stihl stockist Agrosarmiento in Velez-Malaga will provide chains for almost anything, cut from genuine factory bulk reels, while you wait, and good price. Take your old chain and saw details. Go to the main shop first. They have the chain workshop in the neighbouring street - you can go direct to this once you know where it is, and also pay there.
