Killing weeds with aguafuerte

Postby gerrynag » Tue Feb 19, 2019 7:21 pm

Someone has suggested to me that aguafuerte is good for killing weeds on a uncultivated bank.
However, I wonder if anyone could tell me how much I should dilute it down ?
I also wasnt' sure if the aguafuerte leaves any residue in the ground and whether I can eventually plant anything in the area that has been sprayed ?
Thanks in advance.

Far easier to use Roundup.

Not something I would use. Thinking about contamination of soil.

In what way ? Surely it's the same principal, in that you dilute it then spray it. Of course, the aguafuerte is a fraction of the price of roundup.
The aquafuerte was suggested to me by someone who gardens for a living.
Now, I am a concerned whether the aguafuerte remains in the soil after spraying, and not really been able to find any information on the web on it's longterm effects on the soil and on any future planting you might do in the sprayed areas.

No, it's not. Aguafuerte will burn the leaves, but not necessarily kill the roots, so it will just grow again. Roundup takes a few days, but it kills the whole plant right down to the roots. As far as price, Roundup is used very highly diluted so a little goes a long way. I don't know what dilution you would use for Aguafuerte but it will be much lower than Roundup.

Definitely round up. Minimally diluted it killed my yuccas which grew like weeds. Aguafuerte was lapped up like milk!

Any decent garden centre will have it and possibly a cheaper alternative. Usually they will only sell 500ml bottles as larger amounts are restricted to professionals.

Some towns in Span have banned glyphosate herbicides, of which roundup is one. And best to stock up becuase the EU/UK may well go the same way, after a rather nasty cancer case in the USA last year.
