New website

Can anyone recommend a good professional looking, personal, website maker. I have searched the web and found dozens, but the more I look at, the more I am confused with the variety of choice. It has to be simple to construct, with all the goodies such as video and pics. I don't really want to spend a lot of money on it. Or are blog or social a better option for me ??

I construct poetry and have some nice photos to share. From what I can gather a website is a semi permanent display of contents, a blog is a diary and a social network is gossip. That's why I am confused. All three-in-one would be marvellous. Any ideas ??

A blog can be almost anything you want it to be, google "poetry blog" you'll find all manner of different blogs, you might find something that suits you. It's free to create a blog, look at blogger, wordpress etc. It's easy enough to do, it can be as simple or as complex as you want, depends on your skills.

If you go for a Web site you will be talking of small amounts to buy a Domain Name (circa £6/yr) and a Hosting site (circa £9/yr).

Good choice. Totally free, no adverts. You may want to build a few static pages first, like a home page, then use the "posts" to add content as you go along.

I studied WordPress and have probably gone over the top by purchasing a dot com and ALL the gizmos for $99pa. I didn't really want to spend a lot but hopefully at $2pw it will be worth it. Thanks guys/gals.

Thanks Chunky Monky. I had to upgrade my theme, another $60, but it has given me everything I need.
Then it happened !!! I screwed up WordPress !!! I was uploading pics and vids on Sunday evening and major construction items such as upload, putting images/vids to posts, tags etc crashed and stopped for over 12 hours. Nothing like it had happened to WordPress for years !! I admit it. It was all my fault.
To the forum police SWAT unit.....can I post my new site here ?....or will it be removed to the Amigos Lounge and suffer who knows what, like other topics, behind closed doors.??

Instead of using free blogging platforms like Tumblr or Blogger, I would strongly suggest you start a website on WordPress CMS because with WordPress you can build any type of website from blogging to a professional site with a responsive layout.
