I have an Ovislink wi-fi router and my laptop works fine on it.
Some time ago I visited a friends house and tried a cable connection to their router and it would not connect, I thought it was a configuration problem with that router and didn't have the time to research it.
I've tried to connect the laptop (W7 64 bit) to my own router and it also will not connect.
I disabled the wi-fi, enabled the LAn and it connects, (eventually) but has the yellow exclamation mark, no internet.
When running the diagnostic tool, windows reports that the IP configuration is incorrect for the LAN.
I've checked the LAN properties and deactivated IPv6 leaving IPv4 enabled (as in router instructions) and in the advanced configuration set up assign IP automatically and assign DNS servers automatically, as per the instructions.
I've also re-installed the driver for the LAN after searching for a new driver, it says the most up to date is installed.
I can't figure it out.

Re: Problems using LAN cable to router
Hi White Horse,
Things to do..............
1) on the laptop wireless that connects ok ... run a cmd ....ipconfig /all to find the laptops IP and default gateway
2) Who is your ISP............do you have antenna on the house roof or are you connected via ADSL wires.
3) enter the default gateway address into the URL bar on your browser it will connect to your wireless router if its on the same subnet. If it doesn't then the router is on a different subnet .
Its easy to do ............but I'm having trouble putting it in to words...............
From your post..........connect up your cable direct and do 1) above and compare IP, it could be the router is on a different subnet if the ISP by wifi (Antenna on house roof)
What is your DHCP server...........
"Ovislink wi-fi router".......what is the model number.........

2. ISP is a wireless provider - antenna on the house.
3. I can log into the router when I'm on wi-fi, using password but on LAN it says there is an invalid IP (not exact wording of the message)
I don't know what my DHCP server is, except that it says "enabled" on the radio button in settings.
Is this any help?

Thanks for that, investigating and doing more tests, back later today.
Re: Problems using LAN cable to router
Through the PM system, Enrique and I have been putting our best efforts into this one. He's a very helpful chap, but I've come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the hardware on the machine, so there's nothing he can do about that.
Thanks Enrique.
Thanks Enrique.
