Hi kexton,
Not specific to your Model.......I like Acer Netbooks and Laptops, good value for the money and reliable to.

Recently took on board a Lenovo Yoga 2 , runs Windows 10 well too.............

Nice size for travelling.

Hi Thanks for the reply, i am not very teccie and i know how some reviews can be skewed sometimes, so first hand experiences are always helpful.I just needed something lightweight, straightforward as a secondary unit ,which if the reviews are correct it does what it says on the tin.

I'm sure you are aware that Chromebooks run Chrome OS and not windows.
They come with pre-installed Google services/ apps.
Nothing wrong with that, just depends what programs you are used to using and want to use on a Chromebook.
Have a read of http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/chrom ... ing-advice

Lenovo preinstalls malware/ spyware on their computers and hijacks the BIOS so it reinstalls as soon as you reboot it.

Correction for the above Post:
Lenovo did install some Adware on some of their Systems in the past.

A quick Google for Lenovo Superfish and LSE BIOS will show systems involved and how to remove/sort.

The OP asked about the Acer Chromebook. What has Lenovo got to do with that?

I would buy an Apple MacBook - shall we discuss that? So far the only person who has mentioned the Chromebook is Gerry. I really don't see how discussing Lenovo malware is helping to answer the OPs question which was for opinions and experience on the Acer.

Am I supposed to feel awkward or sorry because I brought up a caevat against an alternative somebody mentioned in the thread?

I would actually feel disturbed by somebody not doing that if I was asking for guidance.

I have a H.P chromebook. bought it to replace a ten year old dell desktop. i was sick of dealing with microsoft updates/virus worries etc. all i wanted was something to surf the web yet had a big ole comp .didnt have much on the actual hardrive. so a chromebook was perfect for me. A proper laptop not a tablet, starts up in seconds updates every couple of months or so. takes a few mins to install.no anti virus updates to worry about it still has a hard drive although very small where you can save pics documents but its built to hold docs/pics etc in the cloud. imo its perfect if you just want it as a secondary backup device inorder to get on the internet .
