HOW DO I BACK UP FROM A MEMORY STICK FROM MY OLD COMPUTER

Postby patricia » Sun Nov 26, 2017 2:01 pm

Another one for you computer Geeks!

I backed on a memory stick everything on my old computer which was a windows 7. I installed the backup onto my "New" computer which is windows 10 and I cannot open many of the files!

Reading the literature on it, it says that Windows 10 is capable of accepting a windows 7 backup but I cannot see how to do it. I am afraid to put my memory stick back into a port as it appears to want to back up what is on this computer first and there is no more room on the memory stick for that! :(

Hi patricia,
What program did you use to "Backup" your files from the Windows 7 system ?

What error message do you get when reading on Windows 10 ...?

It says location not available.

I have tried to open the up in the memory stick but cannot even though I can see the documents!

I do not really know the answer to what system. On my old computer which had Windows 7, I backed up from that. So I think, but not sure, it was Microsoft. Other then that I do not know what program! :problem:

Hi patricia,

Did you use Windows Explorer to copy the files on the Windows 7 system......... :?:

The best way to "transfer" files to new system ........Share the directory on Windows 7 system, on the Windows 10 system click on network and you will see the Windows 7 Shared Directory , have two Windows Explorer on your screen and then copy the files over the Network.

PS: just tried to phone you.........

I may have done! I do not remember, but it is possible. I have been through two since then, google chrome and Mozilla fox!

I will try what you have suggested. Problem is I have all the detail and it has rather blocked up the system whereby the hard drive is nearly full and I am trying to delete the backup I cannot open! :?

One for the Geeks again! :D

Well I used my old lap top to try to look at the files and it did work, however it has not copied over all the files and so there are still files on the old computers hard drive, Bearing in mind the computer made the electrics trip when I plugged it in, how likely is it that some of the files are still available on the old hard drive. :?:
