Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
All working as normal here, but as North and South says sometimes iPlayer takes a couple of attempts to pick up the stream. But not so much recently as when they sent out their new updated list of DNS servers I changed mine for different ones and have found an improvement and also 4k UHD streams load much quicker.

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
I never got notification that they had changed and spent about an hour on their chat line when all I needed was to change the server. BBC is working ok for me today.firsttango wrote:All working as normal here, but as North and South says sometimes iPlayer takes a couple of attempts to pick up the stream. Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
What DNS numbers are you both using? They just gave me 23.21.43.50 and 54.183.173.10
They don't work either!

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
There is a list of servers here https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/Servers. However it's not datestamped nor it seems complete. The default UK vpn server in their app is canterbury, which isn't included in this list.

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
That is the old original list that has been at their website for years. The list which I posted above was updated on 18th June 2019. I would be inclined to choose from that. It is also to be found here

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
Thought that may be the case since there is no date on it. Although the two i use are still current. Maybe i should send them a mail and get it corrected.

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
It must have been June when I changed mine. I am using Sweden and Switzerland. I was using Spain but was told to change that to Sweden. The Swiss one is 81 17 17 170 which I haven't changed since setting it up.
Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
Just changed mine to the Madrid one 185.93.3.163 and now working OK.
Contacted support and was told the one I was using had been removed and I needed to use a new one.
No apology for not informing me that there had been a change.
Not impressed.
Cheers

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
Thanks guys.. that gives me plenty of options to try.
It was working fine until I changed my fibre contract. When I checked my DNS settings it seems that Movistar reset the DNS to their defaults.
Smarty support are being very helpful and have asked for lots of screenshots so I will do that in the morning.
One other problem I have had for some time is that some sites default to the Smarty page as they don’t like the security certificates that they are getting when I connect. It happens with the bbc sites and the Daily Mail amongst others.
Very odd!

Support told me to clear my cache and delete my cookies for the site I was trying to access to cure that problem.El Cid wrote: One other problem I have had for some time is that some sites default to the Smarty page as they don’t like the security certificates that they are getting when I connect. Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
Sid, I had exactly that issue once and solved it by clearing browser history, rebooting router and then re Validating IP.

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
I also get these problems from time to time. when I'm directed to the DNS server's page when I log on to a BBC website page, it usually means the IP needs revalidating.
Switching off equipment also usually helps, especially the Fire TV.

Re: SmartDNSProxy not working
I'm getting somewhere. It seems that the problem lies in the router and it's ability to apply the Smart DNS settings to devices connected by wifi.
If I change the individual devices to manual DNS it works fine. The reason I used the router originally was because not all devices allowed manual DNS. The main culprit was NOW TV but I dont use that now so I will go back to manual settings.
I have passed on a load of info requested by support and will see what they have to say.
I will worry about the odd site getting blocked after I have sorted out the basic problem and try the various options that bhave been suggested.
Thanks
Sid
