Smart DNSProxy and BBC

Postby Wicksey » Fri Oct 11, 2019 7:21 pm

For the last few days when trying to watch something on BBCiPlayer my LG TV keeps keeps coming up with the 'sorry something's gone wrong' message. The other channels all play OK.

I have now tried to watch on my laptop via the website through Chrome and although one or two programmes did work OK for others I try and watch it says 'BBC only works in the UK'. It suggests checking the IP address with a link to myip.expert and when I did this it showed my Spanish IP address and internet provider's location here. I have Smart DNS in the router but also in the laptop as well so why does my IP address show up as Spain? I can't understand why it seems to be intermittent as it will work for a few minutes then stop again.

Just turned on the SmartDNS VPN and still the BBC site says I am not in the UK and won't play :wtf:

Hi Wicksey,
The Smart DNS programs route you thru their servers ........if BBC has Blocked this server then you have a error. You Spanish IP will not change.

If you use a VPN then you will go to a Server and your IP will be changed to the Server Location you choose i.e UK

I've put the VPN on and now the IP address is shown as the UK and not a proxy, but the BBC iPlayer still won't work. Perhaps it detects it's a proxy as they seem so hot on it now.

Clearing cookies will not help. I emailed them and there is a problem and they are working on it.

Good morning,

Any problems with these Smart DNS services it's best as El Cid points out to login to your Client area and check the Status , SmartyDNS was often having "problems" with BBC and would shut this Link down.

It's working fine now. They emailed me to say they had fixed it.

I did get a couple of programmes to start beforehand that but then nothing, it seemed to work only intermittently. Instantly after clearing the cookies it started working all the time, unless it was just coincidence. I always go into my account page as often my IP address changes and I have to reactivate it.

Probably a coincidence. The support team said it was a definite problem at their end, and it got fixed overnight.

I watched a few things on iPlayer on LG TV last night with no issues, and tried a few other things (specifically music, old TOTP, PSB in Hyde PArk), and they did not work...
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it
