Windows 10 1909

Postby Enrique » Tue Nov 12, 2019 8:57 pm

Hi,
It's that time of year in the MS calender to issue a "Feature" update............

So a heads up on this.

https://support.microsoft.com/eu-es/hel ... -kb4524570

If you're running version 1903 then it's a "quick" patch..........well ....1903 KB4524570 update took circa 90mins, then the 1909 update 10 mins with a couple of reboots.

This on a relatively slow Acer Laptop with a i3 intel CPU.

BUT if you're running previous versions of Windows 10 .. 1809 or 1803 then you will be in for a late night..........

Update : Doing the Windows 10 1909 update on Desktop intel i5 CPU running OS on M.2 SSD the complete update took 5minutes :!:

Hi,
Thanks for update Mark.

I've done a load since I posted all from 1903 version, super slick , MS had said they would get their "Feature" updates sorted........ :D
I would be interested to hear from anyone coming up from 1803 version ( that's now coming out of support.)

5 upgrades from 1903 to 1909.
All painless as far as I am aware.

That’ll be me then....I thought I had my laptop set for automatic updates but it seems as if I am still behind the game....
It has taken c.20 minutes to prepare, and is now only 17% Downloading!
When I first read this thread and checked it said I was up to date!

Gave up at midnight (6 hours from start) and left it to it. Wondered what the strange light was downstairs when doing the 4.15 wee run, was it telling me to restart....all ok this morning by the look of things

I would compare waiting for windows to complete its update to watching paint dry. Why would you do either? Most of the process is done in the background so it's possible to carry on using the computer except for certain parts.

Mine greeted me this morning with "Restart required" this I told it to do while the caffine injection was filtering and it had done on my return however it still reports version 1903 - curious.

That isn't unusual. There where probably some pre requisite updates need before it could upgrade to 1909.
Have a look again at updates and you will probably find the 1909 upgrade ready to be download and installed.

I'm currently on 1903. It's always amused me that a Windows update about every 3 weeks puts my computer out of action for 30 minutes.
Yet my Android phone has an update about every 4 months and takes 10 minutes. I reckon Android wins.

Thats why i switched to chromebooks. Updated once a month or so and took all of a couple of minutes on a slow connection. Used to dread the update tuesdays. So much microsoft bloatware when all i wanted to do was to get on websites etc.

The only thing with them and android is the update lifespan is limited.chromebooks upto 6 years from device release date so you need to check how old your "new" device is before buying it. Androids you are lucky to get three.
