The ITV system of independent test stations - independent of garages anyway - and the driving medicals are IMHO both a lot better than what the UK does.

I have to agree Peter & Chris, the one I had was "rigorous" to say the least. I now know I'm definitely roadworthy!

Anybody had an ITV done at the Algarrobo ITV station recently?
Did they ask for the insurance documentation?
My car is insured, with Linea Directa, but I appear to have mislaid the documents.

Yes that's correct Gerry, your insurance document is required now for an ITV. We had one done last week.

I really do not get this: the reminder about your ITV comes from Trafico IIRC, who have access to vehicle insurance documents? So why cannot they tell the company running the ITV stations that the vehicle is insured...?
Nothing ever seems joined up!

They do.
If your car is insured, the ITV station will know that (an on-line check is automatic).
They didn't want to see by insurance documents at Algarrobo in November.

Had my car ITVd at Algarobbo a few weeks ago. Normally I get my local garage to handle it for me. For the few euros they charge for a pre-test checkover and take it down for the test it's a no brainer. This time they wanted to have the insurance certificate handy. Don't know if they actually had to present it though.

Gerry, can't you log in and download the insurance certificate from Linea Directa?
Regards

Bob

Had a look at their website again today and I think I have found out how to download the insurance certificate.
Get message "Los documentos que desee generar como archivos digitales estarán disponibles online en un máximo de 24 horas." so have to wait and see if the documents becomes available.

Just ring them (English on 902 325 325), and they'll send you a duplicate certificate and proof of payment.
They'll email it to you, or post a paper copy.

Seems to be a local Malaga issue, here in Cordoba nobody has ever wanted to see my insurance documents for any of my vehicles I have had tested for three years now.

It seems a recent thing, perhaps it's only started this year. I took a car for its ITV (via our usual mechanic) last Tuesday and he had warned me to make sure that I took the insurance document as it's now required. He also needed the last 4 digits from the chassis number in order to book the appointment.

It is not a change in the law. It has always been a requirement but never enforced unless proof of insurance did not show up on the DGT database and you need the last six (not four) digits of the chassis number to be able to book the appointment.

I took my car to Mijas ITV last week and they did not want to see the insurance.

At the test centre in Algarrobo I was asked for mine back in early December as did the other people that were there at my appt time, luckily I went armed with them as prior to going I had a google around and this appeared on the website as it still does now. I asked one of the English speaking receptionists who just shrugged and said the enforcement of the law had come into effect on 15th Sept 2017, as with many things I expect it differs region to region, day to day etc

I am still recovering from shock at Beachcomber owning anything that is old enough for an ITV! :-)

Like I stated, I think it is a local Malaga thing. I had my car to the ITV last week and nobody asked for anything.

I doubt if anybody disagrees with you that it is just a Malaga thing.
Some of us live in the Malaga province so we are stuck with it.

Not quite that simple. Have to request a copy and wait a day or so before it can be downloded.
But now got it downloaded and safely filed away.

Why can’t you use the papers they send you when you renew?

I would if I could find them. I think I must have filed them in the WPB filling cabinet.
Found them for previous years, not that I ever needed to show them to anyone, but can't find the current ones which are needed to get my new ITV.
