driving licence

Postby wollie » Fri Jan 05, 2018 10:35 am

Is it possible i could get a motorcycle in Spain, i would like to buy one to run around.
I would prefer leave everything as is with current licence as i have no intention of moving any time soon.
I think it likely be easier to do in Spain as bikes more popular and hopefully less hassle.

Many thanks...

First question is do you have a valid motorcycle licence as well as cars, second is is your licence an EU one?

125cc is the limit AFAIK. Wollie mentioned ‘motorcycle’ rather than scooter or moped.

Thanks for replies,

I already have an EU licence to drive everything but it seems the licencing authority made an error several years when the system changed and removed everything and just left me with just car licence. It was only when someone pointed out to me at a later time i got everything re-instated on the licence.
It is only in recent years i became interested in bikes and that is just in Spain.
I am aware i can drive up to 125cc with my current licence. My real thinking right now is to get a new separate Spanish licence for motor cycle and i would keep my current licence and hire cars using the licence i have. This may not be an option but the reason i am asking here is to find out.

You would have to be able to do the theory and practical motorcycle tests in Spanish, and I am not at all sure they woukd be happy with two different licences from two countries....
Whilst your current licence is still valid, it may be easier to just use that (assuming you now have full licence for motorcycles and cars, but anyone would tell you it is better to swap your licence for a Spanish one if you now live here.

I have no intention of moving to Spain in the near future and i likely will never do this.
I have full licence for everything cars, buses and heavy goods so i like to leave alone.
I am just thinking having a Spanish bike licence be easier option if possible.
I think i ve able to manage the theory test but i will not consider buying a bike
until i have the licence in place as if i go this route it be a bit bigger than 125.
The practical test not a problem as i have had bike 100 years ago...

Might and probably be wrong but i dont think you can get a spanish licence unless you are a resident. To exchange to a spanish licence you need to have your residencia certificate

Correct. Only registered residents can apply for a Spanish licence. The same applies to an exchange.

Use your Uk licence to ride your Spanish scooter and still be totally legal. I guess you have the old licence like me that enables you to drive almost anything. Mine even has buses on it as long as I am not charging the passengers.

Why don't you just take a motorcycle test in the UK. I assume you live there as you say you don't live in Spain.

That you would get a bike licence in the country you reside in. Presuming thats in the E.U you can then ride the exact same level of bike in spain aswell as a visitor

I am aware of the law, i would not have two licences as i would keep my current vehicle licence.
I would then get one separate licence for bike, when i buy my aeroplane i will get one for that, Michael O'Leary watch out....

Sorry wollie, I really don't get the logic of your comment re "I would then get a separate licence for the bike" ?
You cannot have two licences therefore you would have to incorporate the bike licence onto your current British licence, meaning you will (probably) need to take the test in U K then add it to your UK licence, I don't see any other solution !
