RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
My driving license runs out in November. I want to make sure that I renew it before it runs out. Can someone tell me how I go about it please. I presume I will need another medical as well.
I did go down to traffico in Malaga to renew my driving license. I wonder if I have to go there again! or is there some other way of renewing it!

Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
If you receive mail at the address in which the licence is registered (one can never take this for granted in Spain) you will receive a reminder about six to eight weeks prior to its date of expiry.
You take all of the paperwork to an authorised medical centre, undergo a short medical (eyesight, blood pressure and a play on a computer) and they will do everything else, including the photograph.
Your new licence will arrive in the post a week or two later.

Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
I do receive mail at this address but so far no reminder. As you say you cannot take it for granted. I never ever get a reminder for my IVA but I do for the rubbish!!
Where would I get the appropriate papers from if I do not get them from Trafico. Would the health center I used last time have them! If so I could pop along and talk to them about it.
That sounds good that they will do it all for me.
Thanks for that info. I do not want to have to take a Spanish driving test which I think you have to if your driving license runs out before renewal. I would have to start using a scooter or my bike. Do not fancy that along the motor way!

Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
Don't start worrying until about four weeks prior to expiry. I am not sure if the medical centre can institute renewal without the reminder. Check with them but, if not, you will need to go to your local DGT to chase it up but make an appointment first.
I think the licence has to have expired for some time before you have to take another test.

Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
I renewed mine the other day, I went to the van that visits the villages, check when it's in your area on Facebook or possible your town hall. You need your old Spanish licence, and residencia or passport. They will do your health check as long as you don't have serious health problems and take your photo, they will give you a temporary permission to drive that lasts three months and they say that you should receive your new licence in about one month through the mail. It cost me 30€.

I have never heard of that. What Facebook page please!

Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
Just go to the nearest test centre. Clinica Rincon Nerja will do it. They will do all the forms and photos and you will get the new licence in about two weeks. Just take your old licence and passport and registration paper/card. Very painless. I have never had a reminder and you don’t need to take it even if you did have one.

Do you mean the health centre! I have seen Clinica Rincon in Nerja so thanks for that.
That is a relief. I was imaging myself without a license and so without a car. But that will not happen now

Don't forget that Clinica Rincon has changed it's name to Vithas Salud.
It's just off the roundabout by Supersol near where the cobble stoned bridge was.
I believe you can renew your licence up to 4 weeks before your old one expires. The date runs from the expiry date.
Cheers

I thought the price was pretty much the same anywhere.

The clinic at the top of Avda America opposite Cajamar does it too, I think weekdays after 18.00. That's nearer to home too.
Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
I would have thought so too cid. Kinda like a set goverment price. Never had one myself so dont know. Just going off what a friend saidEl Cid wrote:I thought the price was pretty much the same anywhere.

Re: RENEWING MY DRIVING LICENSE
There is a fee of €23.50 payable to Traffico but this is waved for over 70's.
In addition, of course, the test centre charge for the medical and this can probably vary.

Centro Medico Ärztezentrum, Torrox Costa is its name, and I've heard it recommended before for renewing driving licences. Would seem tot be the easiest way.Lyric wrote:The clinic at the top of Avda America opposite Cajamar does it too, I think weekdays after 18.00. That's nearer to home too.
