NIE registration

Postby gerryh » Thu Aug 23, 2018 4:06 pm

When my wife and I have both died our sons, who live in the UK will inherit our property Etc.
Our Spanish wills cover this.
Neither of our sons have a NIE number but, I assume, they will need them to complete the inheritance.
One of our sons is coming over for a visit soon.
Would it be sensible, or even possible to get him a NIE number whilst he is here on holiday?
We would be going to the Torre del Mar police station.
When we got our NIE numbers, before we moved here, one of the estate agents we had visited here got our numbers for us and we collected the paperwork from her next time we visited Spain.
Cheers

Yes, it makes sense. If he uses your address it should not be a problem.

They tend to ask what they want them for so just make something up if they do

Isn't the reason he needs it to inherit a good enough reason for needing it?
Probably I will say he might be moving in with us. No chance of that happening.
Are there any other questions they might ask? I know it depends on who I speak to, their mood, the day of the week, whether it's a full moon or any number of other unexplainable reasons.

I think it is a certainty that buying property will be acceptable.

When we applied in Malaga city they never asked why we wanted them. We went with our solicitor so maybe they guessed it was for a property.

We needed to update our NIEs having moved address. There was a three month wait for an appointment at the National Police in Cartagena, so it may be worth trying now to get an appointment for when son and heir is here, or at least check the situation at Torre.

Let’s make this quite clear. There is no requirement to update NIEs when you move. If you are talking about the green registration certificate, yes, that has to be updated.

Technicallyy ou are of course correct Sid, but virtually everyone I deal with - Spanish or British - refers to a NIE or a residencia, even Leroy Merlin would not change my address as a Socio without me producing a "NIE with current address".

Fair comment, but the the few people who are not residents and have a “proper” NIE, I would not want them to think that they had to renew them if their “official” address changed.

Ha! Ha!
They tried that with me. I then gave them (via Google translate) a rant about bureucracy, Napoleonic code instincts, the likely affect on business, and mind-numbing blind adherence to old fashioned thinking. The next thing was I received their publicity at my new address!

Strange, our nie certificate doesn't have an address on it. We never had a Spanish address when we applied.

Correct. The NIE basic certificate does not have an address, but the green registration form does.

Hi Everyone. Hope you don't mind me piggy backing on this.
I am contemplating on my daughter moving in with me. She is in UK at present time.
Applying for NIE number wouldnt be a problem I think! but applying for residencia may be a problem ? Because I am under the undesrsatnding that a new application for residence would mean that she or anyone would have to have assetts or the sum of money in a Spanish bank account of 85K .
Question 1 is this correct? Q,2 is there another way around it. Plans would be to be self employed and pay autonomo into the system, and live with me.
TIA

Its around 7 k but varies depending on who you see. Ive read on CAB spain about people applying to be self employed first and then using that to cover them for healthcare rather than having to get private healthcare first inorder to get their residencia have a look on there website or facebook page

ColdelSol - Elusive is on the right lines here - if she is setting up an autonomo business she goes directly into the spanish system as resident tax payer, with NIE, access to health care (with optional paying into a cover - usually too expensive to make it worthwhile - for unemployment benefit which is not available to autonomos under the state system) ... If she is ready to start up, that is the way to go - she will need a Gestor anyway to do her quarterly and annual tax returns, and a good gestor will help her through the hoops and loops doing all the necessary in the correct order and with the right documents to hand. The gestor normally would want to give a good service, since she will be using him for her future business ...

gerryh. Your sons could apply for NIEs via the consulate from home. If they are non-residents, they do not need the proof of income. They can just say they are looking to buy a house and use your address.

If they are gonna get them over here i would check now to see what appointments are available as there have been reports of a long wait at quite a few offices

Agree with above they could go and get them in the uk but depends if they are near to the office or not
