Can UK O.A.P'S Survive in Spain On Basic Pensions.?
Re: Can UK O.A.P'S Survive in Spain On Basic Pensions.?
They probably used a Lawyer like 99.9% of the people who have bought illegal homes
Hope we aren't getting round to blaming the victim again

"again"? It would help if the reporting was less woolly so that readers could UNDERSTAND the story but reading, writing and comprehension are no match for sensationalism, are they?

Yes lets blame the Mail. It's also on Yahoo and all the other nationals. What did you expect...that they didn't show any pics of the demolished home. I understand the story perfectlyLavanda wrote:"again"? Katy, how do you assume that the great proportion of buyers used a lawyer, the advice on here seems to be that the use of a Gestor would suffice. Also a great number of buyers get such distorted vision through their rose tinted specs that they choose to use a lawyer connected with the seller.

Yahoo and Mail are word-for-word the same. The Telegraph has a video and I can't see it elsewhere. Can you post links? I'm really interested in the role of the lawyer.

... also the story said the builder built four illegal homes in the area, all sold to people from the U.K. What happened to the other three houses and the other people? We have no idea.
Why, oh why, is reporting so c5ap these days?
So to keep to the topic, it seems some pensioners will never be able to live in Spain on a U.K. pension - for obvious reasons.

Lavanda wisely stated.....
''So to keep to the topic, it seems some pensioners will never be able to live in Spain on a U.K. pension - for obvious reasons.''
And of course some pensioners find it difficult to Survive in UK on Basic Pensions.
It really depends on Lifestyles, and yes it does require thought and planning, but if your expectations aren't set too high then a good and happy lifestyle is easily within reach of everyone, even for people on low incomes, and I know many who have good lives here in Spain.
May I Wish everyone a Pleasant and Peaceful Weekend, wherever you are.
Regards,
Gordon

2 houses demolished and two to go. Oh and Telegraph has a short video of the demolition. Hope they have a garage to live in like the Priors.

No one lives in them.
The houses started to be constructed without licences in 2002. The Junta put a stop to it in 2004 by ordering demolition.
The builder/promoter carried on.
In 2005 they were solde , via estate agents, to British families using abogados & through the notary !!
All were connected , legally , to water & electric.
In 2005 the Junta notified them all that they were illegal & had demolition orders on.
They all gave up eventually.
The builder has been given 23 months in prison , fined & ordered to pay compensation to all families.
He has declared himself bankrupt.
The Mayor, who signed the orders for connection for water & electricity, has been given 5 months in prison, fined & banned from public office for 23 months. He denies ever signing the orders.
The Junta should be going after all those involved from the moment the 1st demolition order was put in place & arresting them all.
The 2nd 2 houses have a stay of execution as the local council have obtained a court order to the effect that there was no demolition licence, nor environmental assessment, in place for the first 2 & nor is there for those still standing. The Junta say they don't need one.

Thank-you, Gus. It's starting to become clear. The Press always seem to go for the sensational headline and leaves out the detail and I didn't look for the story in The Olive Press as I didn't realise it had become a National title. Silly me. What a mess and pretty nasty for the buyers. I no longer recommend anyone buying in Andalucia - as lovely as it is - because it's so dodgy. On the other hand there are more happy people, in legal houses, enjoying life in Andalucia than there are not. Thank goodness!
Re: Can UK O.A.P'S Survive in Spain On Basic Pensions.?
And while these 'sensational' reports keep appearing there are still plenty of shrewd buyers 'snapping up' the bargains, ok maybe the cheaper properties but it's still a move in the right direction.
It just shows that most people see beyond the 'headlines', and certainly anyone who is considering buying in Spain would be missing out if they didn't act now.
However it is still wise to buy in the right areas, and any complicated properties, even if they are 'dirt cheap', are in my opinion best avoided.
And where are the 'right areas' ?
Well I would suggest that at the moment there really is something for everyone, either coastal or inland, depends on the type of lifestyle you want and can afford.
Regards,
Gordon.

There are probably a few people, right now, who wish they had sat on that fence just a little while longer before jumping off into, for example, buying a house that turns out to be a pile of aggravation.
