Recommendation Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Recommendation Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Just returned from a couple of days here, and we loved it. For foodies, it’s brilliant - more tapas bars than you can count. We particularly liked Casa Balbino. They had literally hundreds of tapas, from seafood to pork fillet cooked in wine (for 2.50). We stayed at hotel Barrameda which is right on the main pedestrianised square. It has a car park, which is a bit tight if you’ve got a big car, and is round the corner from the hotel. From the centre it’s about 10 minute walk to the coast, which is part river estuary, and part Atlantic. It’s got lovely sandy beaches, and on the other side of the estuary is the Doñana National park. It’s easy travelling distance to both Cadiz and Jerez, (I preferred the former), and all in all, I would really recommend a visit to Sanlucar. We went early October and temperatures were significantly higher than Axarquia - a good 5 degrees more, but nights cooled

Looks lovely. What are best airports travel routes?
Re: Recommendation Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Not sure, as we went by car. The nearest airport is probably Seville. It’s about 3 and half hours drive from Velez malaga, so would be less from Malaga airport

Lovely sunsets there too ... and you must have the manzanilla .... for some reason it tastes better there than the same bottle from our local supermarket!

It's a wonderful place and the fish markets are interesting and atmospheric. We had a week there a few years ago. Be careful though, we were walking along the promenade and my OH had our rucksack with passports, cameras, binoculars and all the things needed for a day trip to Parque Donaña and two youths rode past on a quad bike and grabbed the rucksack. The police were great but did say it was a problem. Be warned.

We had a few days there when we had an extended stay at our holiday home.
I thought it was a smashing place.
One night we went to a restaurant where you chose your stuff from a display cabinet and they cooked it for you. When they realised we were English they treated us like royalty.
For me the best part was standing on the river beach and gazing out to the Atlantic and wondering what Columbus and his crew thought as they sailed out into the unknown.
For them it was even more of an adventure than the moon shots as the astronaughts at least knew where they were going.

Aaargh wanted to delete post as I duplicated but never mind.
Jerez airport is closest to Sanlucar but only served from Stansted
Seville can be reached from Stansted & Gatwick

We wandered into a small local bar/bodega and sampled some Manzanilla ... ended up with a bottle or two of some of the best I've had ... superior to La Guita or La Gitana for sure.
