Barcelona safe - yes or no?
Barcelona safe - yes or no?
Is it safe to go there, as it is a political crisis there?
Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
As safe as anywhere else in the world. Better than Syria.

As far as unsafe places are in the World, Barcelona is the last place I'd consider unsafe.

When you consider it’s just declared itself illegally independent and no one has died as a result but suffered a terrorist atrocity all in the last few months, it is just as safe or dangerous as any European city at the moment.
London, Paris as well as other have suffered the same fate and i wouldn’t let these acts stop me from going there so I wouldn’t worry and enjoy your stay In Barcelona.

Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
I didn’t realise London and Paris had declared independence !!! Must have missed that
Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
Not really a laughing matter is it?
Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
I’m not laughing - just highlighting the misunderstandings that can arise as a result of poor use of English.

Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
Don’t blame your facetiousness on me.
‘These acts’ is plural so can only refer to either the terrorist acts of violence or the Declaration of Independence plus the acts of violence. Not the the single declaration.
‘Act’ collates with violence, not independence. ‘Declaration’ collates with independence.
As you say and I’m sure you are well aware that there has been no declarations (of independence) in either Paris or London so it was obvious what the 'same fate' was referring to so a little bit of common sense was needed if you felt you were seeing something other than I had written.

Getting back to the original topic.
I very much doubt if the recent political situation in Barcelona will affect it's safety for a tourist.
However Barcelona has, for a long time, had problems with organised gangs of pickpockets particularly on the underground system. They are very well organised and efficient at what they do.
Be very careful how you carry your wallet/ purse. Only carry sufficient cash for your immediate needs.
The police advice against carrying your passport etc with you.
Don't let this put you off, Barcelona is well worth visiting, just be aware and careful.
Cheers
Gerry

I would have to agree as well. There was a documentary about street crime In Barcelona some years ago on TV. The oddities of the legal system makes it difficult for police to take thieves of the street. It seems that more than something like 750€ has to be stolen before they can be charged.

Agree with the last few posts. I reckon you are likely to have more problems visiting certain areas in London, Paris, Manchester, Rome, New York, Miami.
Wouldn't think twice about going to Barcelona. Also, it's was not Barcelona alone that declared independance, it was the entire area of Catalonia wasn't it?

Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
I beg to differ. I had a knife held to my throat just about 30 meters off the Ramblas, while admiring a shoeshop window.
Barcelona is well-known for pickpockets and scammers ("the mustard trick") who target tourists and those obviously from outside the area.
A friend had their vehicle picked entirely clean while is was locked up in a well-lighted, guarded, underground garage.
Add in the current political contretemps and I think I'd have to say Barcelona is NOT "just as safe as anyplace in the world".

^^^ In light of their declaration of independence, I intend to avoid Barcelona & the rest of Catalunya as much as possible, even do not want to use their airport. Additionally I've been hearing the city has become a huge tourist trap.
Re: Barcelona safe - yes or no?
No busier than the last 15 years. Barca is always busy.
